Murano Global•Los Angeles, CA

About The Position

The Director of Technology owns and operates the North American technology estate, including applications supporting retail, wholesale, e-commerce and the Kentucky distribution center; underlying infrastructure; the Los Angeles team and contractors; and vendor relationships. The role works with global domain owners to implement worldwide direction in North America and serves as the senior technology leader the business sees in person. The central mandate is to modernize a legacy ERP core and point-to-point integrations into a cloud-based, API-driven platform aligned with global architecture, while maintaining business operations. This is a hands-on leadership role involving architecture, code, incident response and delivery, as well as ownership of the North American roadmap, budget and reporting. The Director leads the MIS team across applications, infrastructure and support; manages vendors and contractors; and leads the North American side of the global unification program. The role also owns SOX IT general controls, PCI and the security baseline in partnership with the CISO. The position is based at headquarters in Los Angeles, with regular travel to Kentucky and Lugano and several days per week overlapping European hours.

Requirements

  • At least 12 years of experience in technology.
  • At least five years leading a technology function in a multi-site US retail, wholesale or consumer goods business.
  • Personally led an end-to-end modernization of a legacy technology estate while the business continued trading, with measurable results such as systems retired, costs removed, incidents reduced or lead times improved.
  • Maintains hands-on technical capability, including reviewing code and architecture and recently designing integrations and data flows.
  • Strong knowledge of API, event and cloud patterns sufficient to challenge vendors and lead incident bridges.
  • Experience line-managing a mixed team of employees and contractors, including hiring, exits and capability development.
  • Experience managing a large vendor and contractor estate, including statements of work, performance management and bringing knowledge in house.
  • Deep retail systems knowledge covering ERP, POS, order management, warehouse and distribution center systems, e-commerce, wholesale and EDI, and finance interfaces.
  • Based in or willing to relocate to Los Angeles; able to work on site at headquarters, travel regularly to Kentucky and Lugano, and overlap with European hours several days a week.

Nice To Haves

  • Fashion or apparel industry experience.
  • Experience with AI-assisted delivery on a legacy estate, including coding agents and AI-generated specifications and tests, with quantified results.
  • End-to-end leadership of a data center exit or cloud migration on Azure or AWS, including security, networking and cost modeling.
  • Exposure to the Guess technology estate, including Salesforce Commerce Cloud, retail ERP and POS, order management, PLM and planning, warehouse management, DC automation, Workday, OneStream, Snowflake and MicroStrategy.
  • Working knowledge of SOX IT general controls and PCI DSS in a retail environment.

Responsibilities

  • Own availability, incidents, changes and service levels across retail ERP, POS, order management, e-commerce, wholesale and EDI, warehouse and distribution center systems, finance interfaces, infrastructure and service desk.
  • Ensure technology supports peak trading, store openings and distribution center go-lives without disruption.
  • Deliver a gated modernization roadmap that retires the legacy ERP and AS400-era core, replaces point-to-point interfaces with API- and event-based integration, lands data in Snowflake, exits the data center to cloud, and upgrades store and distribution center technology.
  • Review architecture and code, design key integrations, and participate in significant incident response.
  • Use AI-assisted delivery to improve the productivity of a small team and measure results.
  • Line-manage the MIS team across applications, infrastructure and support; set standards, build capability, hire and exit employees as needed, and develop a team that engineers solutions rather than simply forwarding tickets to vendors.
  • Manage North American outsourcing and contractor relationships, including statements of work, performance, criticality and exit terms; bring critical knowledge in house and manage transitions with the Director of Delivery while maintaining service.
  • Work with the CIO and global domain owners to implement a unified global architecture, standards and security posture, and lead North America's part of the unification program, including Office Salesforce Commerce Cloud, Workday, OneStream and Kentucky DC automation.
  • Obtain a case and sign-off for regional deviations from the global platform.
  • Own SOX IT general controls, PCI and the security baseline with the CISO, and ensure findings are closed.
  • Provide a single technology roadmap, budget and set of numbers for North America and Lugano, reported through the delivery Center of Excellence consistently with other units.
  • Work on site at Los Angeles headquarters, travel regularly to Kentucky and Lugano, and overlap with European working hours several days a week.
