About The Position

The Director of Technology is a key strategic administrative team member at Leland Public School. In our single-building K-12 school setting, this role requires both strategic leadership and direct technical work on a daily basis. This role provides leadership, operational oversight, and hands-on management for all district technology infrastructure, data systems, and cybersecurity. The technology director strives to align technology with student learning goals and ensures that digital tools effectively support the instructional, administrative, and operational needs of our diverse 21st-century learning community.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or a related field preferred.
  • Proven experience in IT management, preferably within an educational setting.
  • Strategic Leadership: Ability to develop and implement long-term technology plans aligned with district priorities.
  • Collaborative Partnership: Build mutually respectful and supportive relationships with administrators and teachers to identify and plan for support needs.
  • Advocacy: Drive proactive conversations regarding technology policy and programming, including AI implementation, digital citizenship curriculum, and data privacy.
  • Communication: Effectively communicate professionally with staff, students, families, and community partners.
  • Adaptability: Demonstrate a problem-solving mindset and a willingness to learn and implement emerging technologies.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred certifications include CompTIA+, Security+, Apple Learning Coach/similar, and Google Workspace Admin.
  • Familiarity with systems such as Cisco Meraki, Mosyle MDM, PowerSchool, Michigan's DRC Insights, CollegeBoard, and ParentSquare is highly valued.
  • Familiarity with Apple/Google/Microsoft OS's, cloud computing, cybersecurity solutions, and networking hardware.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and evaluate the District Strategic Plan, ensuring IT goals are fully aligned with educational objectives.
  • Administer and ensure the reliability of local area networks (LAN), wireless networks (WAN), servers, VoIP systems, and security firewalls.
  • Coordinate technology integration in classrooms, managing the district’s Apple ecosystem and ensuring devices support teacher clarity and student engagement.
  • Support school safety and security through effective and proactive management of security cameras, door access systems, bells and clocks, mass-notification systems, and intercom/PA systems.
  • Develop and enforce cybersecurity policies, managing account security, multi-factor authentication, endpoint protection, content filtering, backup and recovery planning, phishing awareness. Monitor for vulnerabilities, and lead incident response and recovery efforts.
  • Manage the Student Information System (SIS) and ensure strict data privacy compliance (FERPA, HIPAA, COPPA) for state reporting. Maintain accurate technology records and prepare reports related to performance, cybersecurity, and budgeting for audits.
  • Manage the technology department budget, inventory, E-Rate funding, and technology grants.
  • Manage vendor relationships, service agreements, software licensing, and cost-effective procurement of resources.
  • Supervise, coach, and evaluate the Technology Assistant to foster a service-oriented department.
  • Coordinate needs-based technology training for school staff and provide technical assistance to ensure staff productivity.
  • Support and maintain district communication platforms, including the district website, mass notification tools, parent communication systems, and related integrations.
