About The Position

The Director of Technology is responsible for translating ABA’s business strategy into a durable technology strategy—ensuring that platforms, architecture, security, data, and delivery capabilities evolve in ways that support long-term organizational growth, adaptability, operational resilience, and mission impact. The role owns end-to-end accountability for software development, software architecture, infrastructure and operations, security, database administration, and DevOps. They lead with vision, hold teams to results, and foster a culture where accountability and continuous improvement are the norm. The Director serves as the senior technology execution leader for the organization and is accountable for the successful delivery of technology initiatives, operational excellence across technology functions, and the development of a high-performing technical workforce. Working closely with the Chief Information & Technology Officer, the Director translates strategic priorities into actionable technology roadmaps while fostering innovation, collaboration, security, and continuous improvement. The Director provides leadership to application development, quality assurance, infrastructure and network engineering, systems architecture, database administration, project management, and technology operations teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Business Information Systems, or related field required.

  • Ability to develop meaningful performance metrics, operational reporting, policies, standards, governance documentation, and technology plans that support informed decision-making, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to effectively manage technology budgets, vendor relationships, contracts, sourcing strategies, and technology investments while ensuring vendor accountability and responsible stewardship of organizational resources.
  • Strong understanding of software development lifecycle methodologies, quality assurance, DevOps, enterprise architecture, cloud platforms, systems integration, cybersecurity, data governance, business continuity, technology delivery frameworks, and operational risk management.
  • Minimum of fifteen (15) years of progressively responsible experience in information technology, software development, infrastructure, architecture, project management, or related technical disciplines.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of leadership experience managing technical teams, technology programs, or technology operations with a team size (internal and contractor) greater than 60.
  • Manage multi-year roadmaps with investments greater than $8m/yr.
  • Demonstrated experience leading multiple technology disciplines, including software development, quality assurance, infrastructure operations, architecture, or project management.
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence and automation tools, and assess their potential business value, risks, and implementation considerations
  • Experience developing and executing technology strategies, roadmaps, and modernization initiatives.
  • Experience managing enterprise technology projects and technology portfolios.
  • Experience managing technology budgets, vendor relationships, contracts, and software licensing.
  • Experience working within cloud-based and hybrid technology environments.
  • Experience implementing Agile, DevOps, and modern software delivery practices.
  • Demonstrated experience leading organizational change and technology transformation initiatives.
  • Experience supporting cybersecurity, risk management, business continuity, and disaster recovery efforts.
  • Experience building, developing, and leading high-performing technical teams.

Responsibilities

  • Own the multi-year technology roadmap for core platforms, architecture modernization, premise and cloud strategy, security posture, and engineering capabilities.
  • Partner with product and business leaders to prioritize technology investments based on mission impact, risk reduction, reliability, and long-term value creation.
  • Identify and manage technical debt as an enterprise risk, balancing near-term delivery needs with long-term platform health.
  • Shape build-vs-buy, modernization, and vendor strategy to ensure ABA invests in capabilities that are sustainable, extensible, and aligned with strategic priorities.
  • Establish value-based technology planning practices that connect engineering work to measurable business outcomes, stakeholder experience, operational reliability, and future readiness.
  • Drive organizational change by championing innovation and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Enforce technology governance frameworks, ensuring compliance with regulatory, security, and ethical standards.
  • Manage the IT development and operations budget, including software licensing, vendor contracts, and capital planning.
  • Evaluate software investments through a return lens — ensuring systems are built to last, extend, and compound value over time rather than depreciate through neglect, over-customization, or premature replacement.
  • Establish enterprise architecture principles, standards, and decision rights that guide technology selection, integration patterns, data movement, security design, and platform evolution.
  • Ensure architectural decisions to reduce complexity, improve interoperability, and create reusable capabilities across ABA systems.
  • Oversee the full software development lifecycle: requirements, design, implementation, testing, deployment, and maintenance.
  • Establish and enforce best practices in code management, security, performance, DevOps, and reliability engineering.
  • Lead the adoption of AI-assisted development practices — including code generation, automated testing, and intelligent code review — ensuring teams use these tools effectively while maintaining quality, security, and intellectual ownership standards.
  • Define and monitor KPIs across all functional areas; use data to identify bottlenecks and drive improvements.
  • Manage vendor relationships and technology stack selection, including programming languages, frameworks, cloud platforms, and tools.
  • Oversee quality assurance and ensure adherence to standards across all delivered systems.
  • Provide strategic oversight of infrastructure, network engineering, cloud operations, AV technology, digital equipment services, and AIME Center technology operations through subordinate leadership.
  • Provide executive oversight of cybersecurity operations, vulnerability management, technology risk mitigation, and business continuity planning activities in partnership with technical leadership.
  • Ensure technology operations maintain appropriate service levels, reliability, security, and business continuity capabilities.
  • Review operational performance metrics and support continuous service improvement initiatives.
  • Support major infrastructure modernization and technology refresh initiatives.
  • Provide leadership and oversight for technology project planning, prioritization, execution, and resource allocation.
  • Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and aligned with organizational priorities.
  • Balance competing demands and optimize resource utilization across technology teams.
  • Develop and manage technology operating and capital budgets.
  • Oversee technology procurement, software licensing, vendor relationships, and contract negotiations.
  • Evaluate technology investments and ensure responsible stewardship of organizational resources.
  • Participate in long-range financial planning and forecasting activities including managing the annual budgeting process for the IT department.
