About The Position

Valence is hiring a Director of Talent Acquisition to lead recruiting through the company's next stage of growth. Reporting to the VP of People & Talent, this role owns hiring strategy, planning, and the systems and team responsible for delivering it. The Director partners with the leadership team and VP of People & Talent on talent planning, headcount priorities, sequencing, and tradeoffs. This is a player-coach position: the Director will lead and develop the recruiting team while personally running searches, especially for senior and business-critical roles across GTM and technical teams. The role also advises executives and hiring managers on organizational design, role scope, leveling, and hiring decisions, and builds a recruiting function suited to an AI-native company.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of in-house recruiting experience in high-growth B2B SaaS or AI companies, across both GTM and technical hiring.
  • 3+ years leading recruiters or a recruiting function, including hiring and developing the team.
  • A track record of building or substantially rebuilding a recruiting function at a scaling company.
  • Recent hands-on experience running searches and closing senior hires in competitive markets.
  • A clear point of view on assessing talent, structuring interview processes, and maintaining a high hiring bar.
  • Experience influencing executives on headcount, organizational design, and hiring decisions, including pushing back when needed.
  • Strong data fluency, using recruiting metrics and holding the team accountable to outcomes.
  • Real AI fluency and a bias toward incorporating AI into recruiting workflows.
  • Deep experience with Ashby or a comparable ATS, including ownership of system design and data quality.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience as a founding or first TA leader at an early-stage company.
  • Experience hiring for the consulting or professional services-to-tech profile, or recruiting in NYC's AI/tech market.
  • Experience owning employer brand or talent marketing programs.
  • Experience designing compensation and leveling frameworks.
  • Experience hiring internationally in the US, Canada, and UK.

Responsibilities

  • Own Valence's talent acquisition strategy and hiring plan, working with the executive team on headcount priorities, sequencing, and tradeoffs.
  • Lead, coach, and grow the recruiting team, setting expectations for search quality, speed, and candidate experience.
  • Run a personal portfolio of searches end to end, focusing on senior, leadership, and hard-to-fill roles across GTM and technical teams.
  • Design interview frameworks, train interviewers, and run calibration to support consistent hiring decisions.
  • Own recruiting operations and Ashby as the source of truth, including process design, reporting, and team SLAs.
  • Report on funnel health, hiring velocity, and source quality to leadership, and act on the data.
  • Partner with People & Talent leadership on compensation benchmarking, leveling, and offer strategy.
  • Build employer brand and talent marketing to attract strong candidates before roles open.
  • Bring talent supply, compensation, and competitor hiring intelligence into leadership decisions.
  • Identify ways AI can make recruiting faster and higher-signal, and incorporate it into team workflows.
  • Advise executives and hiring managers on organizational design, role scope, leveling, and hiring decisions.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary including base pay and bonuses.
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage from day one.
  • Generous PTO, company-wide R&R shutdowns, and paid parental leave.
  • Retirement plan support for US and global employees.
  • Meaningful equity ownership in a venture-backed company, with potential top-up grants as the company scales and the employee delivers exceptional performance.
