This position is for a Director of Surgical Services in the Operating Room, working 40 hours per week on days. The Director will participate in the development of evidence-based organizational policies and procedures, identify and allocate resources according to budgetary expectations, and foster interdisciplinary collaboration. The position also oversees the development of performance indicators, participates in quality improvement initiatives, and ensures compliance with regulatory agencies. The Director will also be responsible for assessing staff performance with hand hygiene compliance and participating in compliance rounds.

Requirements

BSN is required
Strong technical surgical skills with four to five years operating room experience required.
Previous management experience, excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills, and leadership attributes required.

Responsibilities

Develops and maintains and evaluates patient and staff data collection systems and processes to support the practice of perioperative nursing and promote desired patient centered outcomes.
Develops monitors and evaluates clinical and patient satisfaction initiatives, key surgical performance indicators, standards of nursing practice and outcomes of patient care.
Ensures that there is sufficient flexibility and capacity to meet foreseeable surgical demand.
Participates in the development of evidenced based organizational policies, procedures and standards, which direct patient care and describe the expectations of staff.
Identifies and allocates resources according to budgetary expectations, benchmarking data, patient acuity systems and surgical nursing practice standards of care.
Fosters interdisciplinary collaboration in data analysis and decision making processes.

Monitors and interprets monthly surgical expenditures, variances and management reports to ensure compliance with budget guidelines.
Capable of drilling down deeper on data to identify root causes of variance and develop action plan to address it.
Analyze available management data to identify opportunities to improve performance i.e. utilization of resources (surgical supplies, overtime, turnover times between cases); best practice analysis through benchmarking data.
Reviews and evaluates plans for appropriate utilization of staff at all levels of practice in accordance with the provision of the state nurse practice act, the professional standards of practice by the American Organization of Operating Room Nurses and the American Society of Post-Anesthesia Nurses, benchmarking data and the patient acuity system.
Seeks out opportunities for cost containment in perioperative services.
Explores opportunities for surgical volume enhancements through ongoing discussions with physicians.
