The Role: The Director of Supported Living provides strategic and operational leadership for the Supported Living Program (SLP), ensuring high-quality, person-centered services for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The Director of Supported Living oversees program operations, staff performance, regulatory compliance, and continuous quality improvement while fostering a culture of accountability, inclusion, and excellence. In partnership with the SVP of Community Programs, the Director of Supported Living supports program growth, innovation, and long-term planning while ensuring alignment with DDS, CARF, and organizational standards. This leadership role is instrumental in helping individuals achieve maximum independence, community inclusion, and quality of life.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Human Services, Special Education, or a related field required
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience supporting adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD)
  • Previous supervisory and leadership experience required
  • Experience with program development and service coordination
  • Valid Connecticut driver’s license required; ability to obtain Public Service License

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and support Program Managers, Benefits Coordinators, and Support Coordinators
  • Lead recruitment, onboarding, training, and retention efforts in partnership with Human Resources
  • Provide coaching, mentorship, and performance management to staff
  • Foster a positive, collaborative, and accountable team culture
  • Lead staff and management meetings and support ongoing professional development opportunities
  • Oversee daily operations of the Supported Living Program
  • Ensure services remain person-centered, outcomes-driven, and aligned with best practices
  • Monitor implementation of individualized service plans and measurable goals
  • Support successful transitions within programs and levels of care
  • Build strong relationships with individuals served, families, guardians, and interdisciplinary teams
  • Ensure compliance with DDS, CARF, and organizational standards
  • Lead quality improvement initiatives, audits, and corrective action planning
  • Monitor incident reporting, documentation, and risk management processes
  • Track program outcomes and performance metrics to support continuous improvement
  • Assist with program budgeting, staffing, payroll, billing, and reimbursement oversight
  • Monitor expenses and identify opportunities for operational efficiency
  • Ensure timely and accurate DDS and private service billing
  • Maintain organized records related to expenditures and purchasing
  • Partner with senior leadership on long-term planning and program growth
  • Identify opportunities for new services and program expansion
  • Represent the organization at community meetings, events, and forums
  • Develop strong partnerships with DDS, providers, advocacy groups, and community organizations
