About The Position

Metro State University, Minnesota’s public, urban university, and four-time recipient of the Insight Into Diversity Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) Award is seeking to hire a Director of Student Health and Basic Needs. This is a full-time probationary position within the Student Success division.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree plus six years of advanced professional experience in a related field. Related field includes, but is not limited to: health promotion, health education, nursing, and public health or an equivalent combination of post-secondary training, education, and/or advanced professional experience.
  • At least one year of professional supervisory experience
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, social justice, and cultural competence with the ability to work in a multicultural environment.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of health education theories, research, current and emerging health problems, and social determinants of health faced by students.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of industry standards for health promotion, for example those found in the American College Health Association’s (ACHA) Standards of Practice for Health Promotion in Higher Education; CDC standards, including the National Public Health Performance Standards and the 10 Essential Public Health Services (EPHS); and/or, the American Public Health Association.
  • Knowledge of planning, design, implementation, and evaluation of health education programs, priorities, and goals.
  • Ability to collect, analyze, summarize, and communicate data pertinent to public health and wellness in diverse communities.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in health promotion, health education, nursing, or public health.
  • 3 years of experience in a leadership role supervising staff and/or students
  • Experience providing health promotion services and/or prevention work with students in a higher education setting.
  • Experience developing and implementing public health interventions based on demonstrated health inequity/need.

Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership, work direction, and administration for the university’s initiatives in the areas of student health, basic needs (including the food pantry), and student parent resources for enrolled students.
  • Manages student health and basic needs, services, and related activities to support student well-being.
  • Directs the work of the student parent coordinator and student employees in the student parent center and food pantry.
  • Serves as university expert for infection diseases, public health, and public health emergencies on campus.
  • Keeps us in compliance with Minnesota Statute 136F.20 Student Health.
