About The Position

Handspring is a virtual mental health clinic for children, young adults, and families, dedicated to making quality mental healthcare accessible. We are seeking a Director of Strategic Initiatives to work directly with our founders as a force multiplier for the company. This role is a high-trust operating position at the center of the company, responsible for driving analyses for major decisions and leading cross-functional initiatives. The role involves both strategic work and operational tasks, offering a close view of how a healthcare company is built and significant influence over its operations. The ideal candidate will think like an owner, bring order to ambiguity, and ensure tasks are completed. This role is expected to be a stepping stone to functional leadership within 2-3 years.

Requirements

  • 5 to 7 years of experience.
  • 2+ years of experience at a top management consulting firm, investment banking, or private equity.
  • Experience in structuring ambiguity and operating with senior executives.
  • Exceptional written and analytical communication skills.
  • Ability to translate whiteboard conversations into decision-ready documents.
  • Proven ability to close tasks and follow through.
  • High level of trustworthiness and discretion.
  • Comfort with variety and ambiguity in a constantly changing portfolio.
  • Obsession with company-building and healthcare.
  • Based in the New York City area with the ability to work from the NYC office regularly.

Responsibilities

  • Lead initiatives that currently lack a dedicated owner.
  • Transition experiments into operational processes, including patient acquisition, operations, and payer strategy.
  • Conduct analyses for major company decisions, including pricing, staffing, expansion, and investment strategies (unit economics, workforce capacity, market entry, payer contract scenarios).
  • Develop business cases for new service lines and care offerings, including market sizing and financial modeling.
  • Manage the launch plans for new states, coordinating clinical, credentialing, growth, and payer workstreams.
  • Design and implement goal-setting processes, progress measurement, and leadership team alignment systems.
  • Act as a representative for the founders in meetings they cannot attend, pressure-test decisions, and ensure organizational alignment.
  • Own the creation and management of board and investor materials, including board decks and investor updates.
