About The Position

The Director of Standardized Patient training and Medical Education Simulation will support Baptist University College of Osteopathic Medicine (BUCOM) faculty and students participating in healthcare simulation with the goal of producing competent and holistic physicians. Work with BUCOM faculty to design instructional experiences that support the mission and goals of the College and University. Manages the BUCOM simulation/standardized patient program, facilities operations, scheduling and logistics for all learning and assessment events in the simulation and standardized patient center. Under the general direction of the Assistant Dean of Administration, Operations, and Services, responsible for 8 hours/day, 5 days/week. Incumbents are subject to hours beyond the normal workday.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a health sciences discipline or a bachelor’s degree in education with a focus on post-secondary education.
• Three (3) years of leadership experience in an academic medical school environment, specifically supporting simulation and/or standardized patient programs.
• Demonstrated knowledge of medical simulation technologies, including server-based systems, IP technologies, and interprofessional education (IPE/IPEC) competencies.
• Strong time management, organizational, and critical-thinking skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced academic environment.

Nice To Haves

• MD, DO, or PhD with experience in healthcare simulation and/or medical education or Masters or Doctorate Degree in Medical/Healthcare Simulation
• Strong administrative, organizational and communication skills
• Familiarity with data gathering and analysis
• Experience with budgeting and personnel management
• Ability to prioritize and balance competing demands
• Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE) or Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist (CHSOS) certification may be considered in lieu of some experience when accompanied by relevant professional background.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate with BUCOM faculty and simulation staff to design and implement simulation and standardized patient events for assessment of both osteopathic medical students and other Baptist Health Sciences University (BHSU) learners.
• Work with the Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, the Senior Associate Dean of Clinical Affairs, Assistant Deans and the Chairs of Biomedical Sciences and Clinical Sciences, to define curricular simulation needs and continuously improve student simulation exposure.
• Participate in ongoing strategic planning for the simulation and standardized patient centers.
• Support the accreditation process with both the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) standards and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
• Participate in the development of an annual capital and operational budget.
• Provide direct supervision and leadership for all staff involved in the Standardized Patient and Simulation centers at BUCOM.
• Recruit staff and participate in hiring decisions; train and coach new team members, provide ongoing supervision, manage employee issues such as disciplinary action and performance management, and conduct performance reviews.
• Represent BUCOM on/at university committees, activities, and events, external user groups, conferences, and other professional meetings.
• Performs other accountabilities as assigned or directed.
