About The Position

The Director of Specialty Practices provides operational, financial, and strategic leadership for all specialty ambulatory clinics within the organization including the following practices: Cardiothoracic Surgery, Vascular Surgery, Urology, General Surgery, CHF/ID clinic, the Pulmonary/Sleep/PFT offices, and the surgical APPs. This role ensures consistent workflows, high‑quality care delivery, strong access performance, and an excellent patient experience across diverse specialty service lines. The Director oversees daily operations, staffing, scheduling, and clinical support processes, and partners closely with nursing and provider leadership to advance specialty‑specific quality and performance outcomes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • A minimum of 5 - 7 years of progressive leadership experience in ambulatory or clinical operations.
  • Strong financial insight and experience with productivity, budgeting and KPI management.
  • Ability to lead change, improve workflows, and enhance patient experience.
  • Excellent communication, relationship-building, and problem solving.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Business, Nursing, or related field preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure consistent specialty-specific workflows, policies, and patient experience across all primary care sites.
  • Develops specific workflows, procedure coordination, diagnostic access, and multidisciplinary care across the specialty units
  • Standardize front‑desk, rooming, scheduling, and clinical support processes.
  • Monitor clinic throughput, visit volumes, template optimization, and operational efficiency.
  • Maintain regulatory readiness across all ambulatory primary care locations.
  • Own access metrics including time‑to‑next‑available appointment, new patient availability, and same‑day access.
  • Balances demand, procedure slots, follow-ups and urgent specialty visits.
  • Optimize provider templates to balance demand, chronic disease follow‑up, and walk‑ins.
  • Designs workflows and engagement strategies tailored to specialty populations and procedure‑related visits.
  • Ensure appropriate staffing levels to support access, throughput, and safe care delivery.
  • Oversees triage, refills, results management, procedure prep, diagnostic follow‑up, and specialty‑specific care pathways.
  • Partners with specialty providers and nursing to improve specialty‑specific quality metrics and chronic disease management.
  • Support preventive care and chronic disease management initiatives across primary care.
  • Lead clinic managers, supervisors, front‑desk teams, and clinical support staff.
  • Oversee recruitment, retention, onboarding, and competency development.
  • Build a culture of accountability, teamwork, and patient‑centered care.
  • Provide coaching, performance evaluations, and corrective action when needed.
  • Drive patient satisfaction performance across all primary care clinics.
  • Improve phone access, portal messaging workflows, check‑in processes, wait times, and care coordination.
  • Resolve escalated patient complaints and lead service recovery efforts.
  • Manage budgets, productivity, staffing models, and financial performance for primary care.
  • Track KPIs such as visit volumes, RVUs, expenses, overtime, and supply utilization.
  • Implement cost‑control strategies and operational efficiencies.
  • Partner with Specialty physicians, APPs, nursing leadership, diagnostic services, procedure teams, scheduling/access.
  • Coordinates with primary care, inpatient teams, and other specialties for shared patients and multidisciplinary care.
