About The Position

Serve as the Director of Social Media for the Naval Academy Athletic Association, developing and implementing plans for department-wide use and advising the department on best strategies. This position plays a key role within the strategic content creation and brand development of Navy Athletics while being the lead administrator for the main @NavyAthletics accounts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required in digital media, marketing, communications, sports management or related field.
  • 1-3 years of experience with social media/digital strategy management and content creation, preferably at a high-profile collegiate or professional sports organization.
  • Experience editing and working with Adobe Creative Suite (Premiere, After Effects, Photoshop, etc.).
  • Strong understanding of social media analytics, trends and best practices across multiple platforms.
  • Proficiency in graphic design, video editing and photography.
  • Self-starter and proactive planner with ability to strategize and execute campaigns.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work with a wide variety of constituents as a team-oriented individual.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States of America, without sponsorship.
  • Must be eligible to work on a military installation, including a willingness to submit to a background screen.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.

  • Preferred experience with using social media management platforms (e.g., Sprinklr, Sprout Social, Hootsuite)

Responsibilities

  • Manage, maintain, and develop Navy Athletics' social media accounts (@NavyAthletics) across various platforms, including Twitter/X, Facebook and Instagram.
  • Develop content strategy for the main account and team-specific accounts that embody the values of the Naval Academy Athletic Association and highlight our student-athletes.
  • Maintain and regularly update department policies for social media, while providing continuing education for staff and student-athletes on social media best practices.
  • Use analytics to develop plans that resonate with our followers, including selecting content for the main @NavyAthletics account and team-specific accounts.
  • Create weekly, monthly and yearly strategic content plans to be shared across the athletic department and with content creators.
  • Collaborate with various stakeholders within Navy Athletics, the Naval Academy, governing conferences and broadcast networks to develop a social media calendar that aligns with our brand values and supports our obligations to those stakeholders.
  • Work with varsity programs to create and implement strategic plans across digital and social platforms using graphics, photos, and video, integrating student-athletes, sports information directors, coaches and other stakeholders.
  • Work with the various stakeholders to plan content creation for each sport and coordinate sport-specific content capturing.
  • Monitor social media platforms for trends and feedback, and provide community management by engaging with fans, student-athletes, coaches and other stakeholders on social media.
  • Provide semi-regular reports and analysis on social media metrics to stakeholders that include engagement rates, follower growth and reach for teams and units using social media management platforms.
  • Ensure that all social media content is on-brand, accurate, and adheres to the athletic department and Naval Academy’s policies and guidelines.
  • Own the recruitment, managing and teaching of social media student interns.
  • Collaborate on the implementation and management of Teamworks Influencer.
  • Serves as a staff member of a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) - sanctioned athletics program, and understands that NCAA rules and regulations must be followed and strictly adhered to. Maintains an understanding and awareness of applicable NCAA rules via annual compliance briefs to staff, the NCAA Manual, copies of which are maintained in the Compliance Office, regular compliance item e-mails generated by the Compliance Office, and the NCAA official website (ncaapublications.com – Div I Manual). Immediately notifies the Compliance Office if a potential violation of NCAA rules is observed. Understands that non-compliance with NCAA rules and regulations may be grounds for termination of employment.
