About The Position

The Director of Safety will direct and manage all safety objectives and processes throughout all levels of the Company. You will be actively involved daily in activities ensuring safety awareness and promoting safety culture. This role involves managing the day-to-day operations of the Safety Department, including personnel management, making safety decisions, and daily interaction with drivers for training or intervention. The position emphasizes operating the fleet safely, protecting others on the road, treating employees fairly and with respect, and providing excellent customer service.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • 1 - 3 years of experience
  • Mcleod Software knowledge
  • Previous Safety related experience
  • Must consistently demonstrate the company’s Mission and Values.
  • Good oral and written communication skills in order to effectively interact with customers, drivers and other team members in person and on the telephone.
  • Customer service-oriented.

  • Good organizational skills.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule when needed to including weekends, evenings, and holidays.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the day to day Safety Dept of DMT.
  • Manage personnel.
  • Make safety decisions.
  • Talk to drivers daily who may need training or intervention.
  • Ensure all drivers are fully trained and knowledgeable of all safety risks associated with their job.
  • Investigate safety related issues (i.e. accidents, traffic violations, damages, workers comp claims) to ensure safety standards are adhered to and re-educate or terminate as required.
  • Manage processes to ensure all drug screens, random testing and other insurance related testing is performed regularly.
  • Administer legal compliance with respect to OSHA, DOT, FMLA & Workers Comp under direction of the COO.
  • Attend unemployment hearings or other legal proceedings regarding employment.
  • Ensure personnel files (medical, insurance, benefits) are maintained.
  • Administer all employee insurance forms including COBRA.
  • Monthly reporting on OSHA, Life Insurance, Accidents (for Driver Managers), Monthly Staff Turnover, Owner Operator Physical Damage and Bobtail Report.
  • Oversee selections for awards (Driver of the Month, Safety Award, etc.) and hold quarterly safety meetings.
  • Perform reviews (OSHA, MVR, Health Insurance Check, etc.).
