About The Position

The Interim Director of Residential Life is a twelve-month, live-in position reporting to the VP of Student Development, providing strategic leadership for the residence hall community and shaping the residential experience as a place where students can grow socially, spiritually, physically, and mentally. As the senior live-in professional staff member, the Interim Director serves as a mentor, formational guide, and spiritual influence in students' lives, cultivating a welcoming community and creating opportunities for students to thrive during a formative season of their development. This position manages daily operations including budget management and expense authorization; coordinating, monitoring, and evaluating events, activities, and programs; hiring, training, and supervising student staff of Resident Assistants and Graduate Assistants. The Interim Director sets the vision and direction for the residential life program, guiding its planning and growth while building and leading a team of Resident Assistants and Graduate Assistants who carry that vision into daily community life. As a student conduct officer and first responder for residential life situations, the Interim Director exercises sound judgment and care in moments that matter most to students. The Interim Director also shapes residential life policy and handbook development in partnership with Student Development leadership and stewards the program's budget and data to ensure its ongoing health and impact.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Student Services, or related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in residence life, student services, or student affairs.
  • Supervision and management experience, or equivalent education and training.
  • Knowledge of student development theory and its application to college student residential living.
  • Knowledge of and/or ability to quickly learn a variety of office technologies (MS Office, Banner, Maxient, Target X).
  • Organizational, interpersonal, customer service, and oral/written communication skills.
  • Ability to supervise, manage, motivate, and lead teams of student staff.
  • Ability to participate on and lead projects, committees, taskforces, and workgroups.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and exhibit strong integrity in decision-making.
  • Ability to work well independently or collaboratively as a member of a team.
  • Ability to set priorities, meet deadlines, and multi-task with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to be detail-oriented, thorough, effective, and timely.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Sets the direction for the residential life program, designing a community experience that supports students' social, spiritual, physical, and mental development throughout their time on campus.
  • Serve as a mentor and spiritual influence for students in residence, partnering closely with Campus Ministry to integrate spiritual formation opportunities, discipleship touchpoints, and faith-centered programming into residential life.
  • Recruit, develop, and lead a team of Resident Assistants and Graduate Assistants, equipping them to extend the vision of residential life into the daily rhythms of hall community.
  • Serve as a student conduct officer and first responder for residential life situations, bringing sound judgment to moments of conflict, crisis, or need.
  • Shape and maintain residential life policy and the residence hall handbook in coordination with Student Development leadership, ensuring policies reflect both institutional standards and the community's formational goals.
  • Oversee the residential life budget and expense authorization, ensuring resources are directed toward the program's mission and priorities.
  • Manage the hiring, supervision and development of student staff.
  • Gather and report residence hall and residential life data to assess program health.
  • Coordinate with Facilities and Maintenance for basic maintenance support to the residence hall and implementation of preventive maintenance; work with University Events to execute on-campus external conference experiences in the residence hall; partner with Tornado Print & Mail on mail and package delivery for residents; manage the key inventory system; support identification of annual facility projects.
  • Coordinate with Campus Police for regular fire and safety drills and ensure residence hall staff are regularly trained in emergency response.
  • Administer and monitor all housing-related processes, procedures, and protocols; collaborate with the Student Development team and other colleagues to develop and revise residence hall policies, procedures, and protocols; serve as a student conduct officer to resolve incidents occurring in the residence hall and participate in the broader judicial process as it pertains to housing issues.
  • Own the development, publication, and regular review of the Residential Life Handbook, and provide feedback to the VP on housing policy and reporting as needed; maintain accurate, reliable records of residence hall occupancy, vacancy trends, and predictions to support institutional planning and reporting.
  • Assist the VP, Student Development with other duties as assigned.
