About The Position

The Assistant Director of Facilities provides leadership and oversight for the maintenance, custodial, renovation, and facilities of all university residential communities. This position is responsible for ensuring that halls are safe, well-maintained, clean and conducive to student success. The Assistant Director reports to the senior level Assistant Director and supervises facilities staff, manages work order systems, oversees preventative maintenance programs, coordinates improvement projects and collaborates with campus partners to support the residential experience.

Requirements

  • Exceptional communication and leadership skills
  • Demonstrate an understanding of building maintenance and custodial work necessary for oversight of facility management.
  • Available to respond to emergencies 24 hours a day
  • Earned bachelor’s degree

  • Three years of applicable experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Direct the day-to-day maintenance and custodial operations for assigned residential facilities
  • Ensure residential facilities meet health, safety, fire and accessibility standards
  • Monitor building conditions and conduct regular facility inspections
  • Coordinate emergency repairs and after-hours work and response procedures
  • Implement preventative maintenance and regular custodial schedules
  • Supervise maintenance and custodial civil service positions and conduct performance evaluations for civil service employees
  • Recruit, hire, train, evaluate and develop facilities personnel while fostering a culture of excellent customer service and teamwork
  • Manage the housing work order system and analyze trends to improve operational efficiency
  • Monitor facilities operating budgets and obtain quotes and manage purchasing of supplies and materials in addition to contracted services
  • Coordinate facility support for conferences and summer camps in addition to the opening and closing of residential facilities for student move in/move out periods
  • Respond professionally and timely to student, parent and staff concerns regarding facility issues.
  • Promote a customer-focused maintenance operation that supports student satisfaction.
