About The Position

Responsible for supervising and overseeing all aspects of rehabilitation services including hiring, training staff, managing budgets and daily revenue. Also responsible for managing an effective working relationship with medical staff, administration and other departments and services. The director is responsible for the development, implementation and monitoring of all patient care programs, plans for providing care, performance improvement programs, policies and procedures; and for maintaining adequate qualified and competent personnel, adequate space and adequate equipment to ensure a high degree of quality patient care. The Director will also ensure effective integration of the department and develop an operations plan that complements the organization's plans for continuous performance improvement and delivery of quality patient care. The Director of Physical Therapy is responsible for leading and managing the Physical Therapy Department within a hospital setting. This role focuses on delivering exceptional patient care, maintaining operational efficiency, and ensuring compliance with healthcare standards. The Director will oversee inpatient and outpatient physical therapy services, manage a multidisciplinary team, and collaborate closely with other hospital departments to provide integrated, patient-centered care.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5–7 years of healthcare leadership or management experience, preferably within rehabilitation services or a hospital setting.
  • Experience in rural healthcare or Critical Access Hospital environments preferred.
  • Prior direct clinical practice experience in PT, OT, or SLP is beneficial but not required.
  • Previous experience leading teams preferred.
  • Assumes personal responsibility for competencies, certifications, annual education, and any other required tasks by due date assigned.
  • Responsible for professional development and attending department educational in services and meetings.
  • Over 80% attendance at all mandatory meetings required.
  • Reviews and complies with general hospital and departmental policies and applicable laws and regulations including CMS/OIG and other compliance and industry standards.

  • Maintain adequate qualified and competent personnel and adequate space and equipment to ensure a high degree of quality patient care.
  • Ensures compliance with regulatory agencies and appropriate licensing/accrediting agencies in areas of service, personnel and facilities.
  • Monitor key results, standards and performance measures to assure the efficient use of manpower and materials in the best interest of the hospital.

  • Assist in developing programs to extend the department's services and revenue base.
  • Maintain high standards of health and safety in all activities.
  • Assist in the development, monitoring, and adherence to both operating and capital budgets.
  • Manage productivity and team workloads to maximize efficiency and patient care.
  • Work with team to ensure individual, departmental, and organizational goals are met.
  • Practice proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies (included but not limited to any organizational policies for OSHA, MDS, etc.).
  • Follow infection control policies and universal precautions as applicable.
  • Demonstrate exemplary leadership behaviors to team members and stakeholders.
  • Devise and ensure an effective training and orientation program for new team members and students.
  • Communicate positively and effectively with coworkers, families, physicians, and all others.
  • Participate and lead (as appropriate) in committees, teams, and work groups (e.g. quality team, performance improvement, employee and patient experience, etc.).
  • Works in patient care when patient load requires.
  • Keep work area clean and free of hazardous obstacles.
  • Be alert to equipment and facilities to ensure utilization, proper care, and maintenance is adhered to; report repairs needed promptly to maintenance.
