About The Position

Accountable is an online peer recovery provider that has supported over 10,000 people since 2020, operating in all 50 states and in-network with national health plans. Founded by individuals in recovery, the program pairs clients with peer coaches and utilizes verified at-home toxicology, care coordination, and family support. The platform offers a portal for referring programs and clinicians, providing real-time recovery dashboards and HIPAA compliance. This role is an opportunity to lead the Southern California market, establishing Accountable as a primary referral source for treatment centers, clinicians, and other relevant organizations. The position requires a strategic individual contributor who can build and manage relationships to drive referrals, reporting to the VP of Outreach. The company emphasizes ethical practices, refusing referral fees or kickbacks, and focusing on outcomes, responsiveness, and trust. Success is measured by building a productive market, forecasting referrals, and developing a playbook for future market expansion.

Requirements

  • Reside in Southern California.
  • Hold a valid driver's license and have reliable transportation.
  • Possess 5+ years of experience in outside sales, community outreach, admissions, or business development with proven ownership of a territory, pipeline, or revenue target.
  • Have a strong reputation and existing relationships within the Southern California treatment community that can generate qualified referrals quickly.
  • Experience opening a market or building a territory from an early stage.
  • Proficiency in the language of the treatment world (detox, residential, PHP, IOP, outpatient, MAT, sober living, recovery support).
  • Understanding of how people pay for and access care, including private pay and insurance coverage.
  • Proven track record of meeting sales targets and ability to explain the underlying metrics.
  • Ability to communicate credibly with diverse professionals (clinical directors, attorneys, parents).
  • Discipline in CRM usage, with same-day logging.
  • Ability to work independently without being territorial, sharing relationships and contributing to the team's success.
  • Desire to be managed on outcomes with a weekly number and monthly business review.
  • Ability to start soon.
  • Direct behavioral health or substance use treatment experience is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with relationships with treatment providers, clinicians, interventionists, attorneys, or monitoring programs that can produce qualified referrals in the first quarter.

Responsibilities

  • Own the territory plan, segmenting the market and deciding which accounts to prioritize.
  • Focus on building relationships with treatment providers (residential, detox, PHP/IOP, outpatient, sober living) and their staff (discharge planners, case managers, admissions, clinical leaders, alumni coordinators).
  • Build relationships with the clinical community, including therapists, addiction medicine/psychiatry practices, primary care, and hospital social workers.
  • Develop relationships with legal and monitoring entities such as interventionists, professional monitoring programs, drug courts, attorneys, probation, and parole.
  • Pursue employer and community accounts like EAPs, safety-sensitive employers, and recovery community organizations as per the plan.
  • Be in the field four to five days a week, aiming for 15-20 real partner meetings weekly once ramped.
  • Sell consultatively, understanding referrer needs before pitching and being honest about Accountable's fit.
  • Run in-services and lunch-and-learns, and participate in relevant coalition meetings, professional events, and conferences.
  • Maintain close contact with every referral, ensuring fast handoffs, closing the loop with partners, and protecting professional reputation.
  • Own performance numbers and understand the underlying activities, conversion rates, and necessary adjustments.
  • Log activity, opportunities, and market intelligence in the CRM daily.
  • Share learnings, including effective messaging, competitor activities, and unsuccessful approaches, with the outreach team.
  • Adhere to Accountable's compliance standards in all referral relationships.

Benefits

  • Base salary of $95,000-$110,000, depending on experience, market relationships, and past production.
