About The Position

Responsible for safeguarding patient’s protected rights under Michigan’s Mental Health Code and CMS when receiving services.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • One or more years’ of professional experience in investigation and advocacy within a private or public human services agency required.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree in human services, management, public administration, social science or law from an accredited college is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Receive reports of and investigates apparent or suspected violations of rights.
  • Act on behalf of recipients of mental health services to obtain remedies for apparent violations.
  • Receive, review and investigate reports of alleged violations of recipient’s rights guaranteed under Chapter 7 of the mental health code and CMS conditions of participation.
  • Promote resolution of substantial violations.
  • Prepare and review agency policies, procedures and standards relating to the rights of recipients.
  • Conduct new hire rights training.
  • Develop policies and procedures regarding the protection of rights of clients while recommending improvements.
  • Attend hospital orientation, staff meetings and keeps all yearly mandatories up-to-date as required.
  • Responsible for county rights audits.
  • Conduct onsite visitations.
  • Ensure compliance of annual rights training.
  • Provide staff management to including hiring, development, training, performance management and communication to ensure effective and efficient department operation.
  • Demonstrate a positive, empathetic and professional attitude towards customers always. When patient needs are not met, acknowledge and work to resolve complaints. Recognize that patient safety is a top priority.
  • Perform other functions and tasks as assigned.
