About The Position

The Director of Quality - Fabrication & Manufacturing develops, implements, and leads Loenbro’s enterprise quality strategy across its Fabrication & Manufacturing network. The role establishes a consistent, scalable quality-management framework for mechanical and pipe fabrication, structural fabrication, electrical prefab, modular assembly, and future manufactured products. An initial priority is assessing facility certifications, code qualifications, quality programs, procedures, personnel qualifications, inspection capabilities, and customer-specific requirements. The Director uses the assessment to establish a network-wide certification and quality strategy aligned with target markets, facility specialization, and Loenbro’s manufacturing strategy. The role also advances the organization from predominantly project-specific quality control toward a proactive manufacturing quality model centered on first-time quality, error prevention, standardized processes, measurable performance, root-cause analysis, and continuous improvement. Working across Operations, Engineering, Project Management, Welding and Process Improvement, Safety, Estimating, Supply Chain, Business Development, project teams, and customers, the Director develops quality plans for new products, processes, facilities, acquisitions, partnerships, and end markets. This senior customer-facing role communicates Loenbro’s quality systems, capabilities, certifications, controls, and improvement approach. Success includes establishing network-wide quality and certification capabilities, reducing defects and the cost of poor quality, and supporting Loenbro’s growth from project-based fabrication into repeatable manufacturing.

Requirements

  • At least 10 years of progressive quality leadership experience in fabrication, manufacturing, construction, EPC, industrial services, or a related environment.
  • Strong knowledge of welding and fabrication quality systems, inspection, NDE, material control, traceability, and corrective-action processes.
  • Working knowledge of applicable codes and standards such as AWS, ASME, AISC, ISO, and other relevant fabrication and manufacturing requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience with root-cause analysis, corrective and preventive action, first-pass yield, cost of poor quality, and continuous improvement.
  • Experience developing project-specific and product-specific quality plans and supporting customer audits and qualification activities.
  • Strong analytical and executive communication skills, including the ability to convert quality data into actionable operational improvements.
  • Ability to travel regularly among fabrication and manufacturing facilities and project locations.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quality, Construction Management, Manufacturing, Welding Engineering/Technology, or a related technical discipline preferred; equivalent significant relevant experience may be considered.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience developing and implementing quality-management systems across multiple facilities or operating locations.
  • Experience supporting electrical manufacturing or prefab quality programs.
  • Experience with new-product introduction, acquisition due diligence, and integration.
  • Experience with nuclear quality systems or NQA-1 is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a standardized enterprise quality strategy, standards, policies, procedures, governance, and minimum requirements across Fabrication & Manufacturing operations.
  • Establish quality roles, responsibilities, accountability, escalation processes, and expectations across facilities and projects.
  • Assess existing certifications, accreditations, code stamps, welding qualifications, procedures, inspection capabilities, personnel qualifications, and quality programs; identify gaps.
  • Maintain a centralized certification and qualification matrix and develop a facility-aligned certification strategy.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable AWS, ASME, AISC, NEC/NFPA, UL, ISO, customer-specific, and other relevant requirements.
  • Govern welder qualifications, welding procedures, inspection personnel qualifications, calibration programs, and quality records.
  • Develop the quality-system roadmap for regulated and technically demanding markets, including potential future nuclear/NQA-1 capability where aligned with company strategy.
  • Create a standardized quality scorecard, track leading and lagging indicators, build dashboards, and benchmark facilities and processes.
  • Partner with Welding and Process Improvement leadership to standardize welding quality and address weld performance, procedures, documentation, inspection, material traceability, dimensional control, coatings, and testing.
  • Establish quality controls for structural fabrication, skids, racks, modular assemblies, equipment integration, and manufactured products.
  • Partner with Electrical Prefab leadership to develop inspection, testing, documentation, traceability, acceptance criteria, and performance metrics for electrical assemblies and products.
  • Develop quality plans for projects, products, manufacturing processes, and new end markets; incorporate quality requirements early in product and process design.
  • Establish inspection and test plans, hold and witness points, acceptance criteria, traceability, documentation, and turnover requirements as appropriate.
  • Participate in design, constructability, manufacturing-readiness, and new-product reviews; establish first-article, prototype, pilot-production, and production-release processes.
  • Use risk-based methods, including FMEA where appropriate, to identify potential failure modes and establish preventive controls.
  • Establish consistent nonconformance, root-cause analysis, corrective-action, and preventive-action processes; verify corrective-action effectiveness and prevent recurrence.
  • Identify recurring trends and deploy network-wide corrective actions, lessons learned, and improvement practices with Operations and Process Improvement.
  • Work with project teams to translate customer and project requirements into executable shop quality plans and align engineering, procurement, fabrication, inspection, testing, and turnover.
  • Serve as a senior escalation point for significant quality matters and participate in customer meetings, audits, facility assessments, pre-award qualifications, and strategic pursuits.
  • Support Business Development and Estimating with quality strategies for strategic pursuits and new end markets.
  • Partner with Supply Chain to establish risk-based supplier and subcontractor qualification, surveillance, inspection, performance management, and corrective-action processes.
  • Standardize quality documentation, inspection records, turnover packages, audit and certification records, and records-retention requirements.
  • Partner with Operations and IT to evaluate and implement digital quality-management capabilities and integrate quality data with manufacturing, ERP/MRP, project controls, and operational reporting.
  • Assess acquisition targets’ quality systems, certifications, personnel, procedures, and capabilities; identify gaps, risks, investments, and integration needs.
  • Develop quality integration plans for acquired facilities and participate in facility planning to incorporate appropriate quality infrastructure.
  • Provide functional leadership to quality personnel, establish competency and training standards, and develop career pathways.
  • Build a culture in which Operations and the workforce own quality, promoting transparency, accountability, stop-work authority, learning, standardized work, and proactive error prevention.
  • Travel regularly among Loenbro fabrication and manufacturing facilities and project locations.
