About The Position

The Director of Quality, Risk and Patient Safety is responsible for the design, development, implementation, evaluation, and continuous improvement of the hospital-wide quality and patient safety system, accreditation/regulatory readiness, and clinical informatics. This role involves developing and overseeing patient safety programs, quality management, performance improvement, and ensuring continuous survey readiness. The Director also manages compliance initiatives and supervises staff within the quality management department.

Requirements

  • 5 years' experience in risk management, patient safety, or quality.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • 10 years’ experience in a healthcare environment.
  • Microsoft Office proficiency (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Experience using EHR.
  • Proven ability to analyze, interpret, and display data.
  • Ability to communicate verbally.
  • Ability to compile complex reports and develop presentations.
  • Ability to compose letters and memorandums.
  • Ability to deal calmly and courteously with people.
  • Ability to deal with stressful situations.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and oversees implementation and management of the patient safety program, including improving the culture of safety and reducing patient harm.
  • Designs and implements systems for patient safety event reporting, root cause analysis, and corrective actions.
  • Monitors safety trends and facilitates improvements using quality improvement methodology.
  • Designs and implements systems to communicate patient safety events and develops patient safety metrics.
  • Leads hospital-wide efforts to educate staff and physicians on the Culture of Safety and maintains knowledge of national developments in patient safety.
  • Develops and oversees the quality management/performance improvement program to monitor, evaluate, and improve care quality and patient safety.
  • Oversees the hospital Quality and Safety Committee and serves as a consultant to leadership and medical staff on quality measures and improvement efforts.
  • Develops, modifies, and maintains the hospital's quality and safety plan, and oversees Stroke and Sepsis programs.
  • Ensures value-based purchasing and other regulatory reporting of quality and safety measures.
  • Participates in various hospital committees and leads efforts to educate staff on quality improvement methodology.
  • Leads the hospital in maintaining a constant state of continuous survey readiness, staying updated on regulations and accreditation standards.
  • Prepares staff, leaders, and physicians for accreditation surveys through education and rounding.
  • Oversees the accreditation committee, assesses organizational compliance with regulatory requirements, and oversees compliance with meaningful use and other regulatory programs.
  • Institutes and maintains effective communication regarding compliance, Standards of Conduct, and compliance issues.
  • Acts as an independent review and evaluation body for compliance issues, identifying potential vulnerabilities and risks.
  • Develops and implements corrective action plans for compliance issues and oversees a system for uniform handling of violations.
  • Develops the department operating budget and ensures compliance with budget expectations.
  • Provides supervisory responsibilities to staff in the quality management department.
