About The Position

The New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene’s Division of Environmental Health works to prevent and control illness and injury related to environmental and occupational health risks through outreach, education, surveillance, and enforcement. With staff of 1,000, the Division covers a broad range of subject matter, including oversight of environmental investigations, lead poisoning, injury prevention, occupational health, food safety, childcare, radiation control, recreational and drinking water quality, air quality, climate health, vector control, veterinary public health and pest control. The Bureau of Administration requires staff with strong attention to detail to manage program operations in a variety of areas, including financial analysis, performance management, organizational strategy in times of expansion and contraction, and program initiative implementation. Under the direction of the Assistant Commissioner for Environmental Health Administration, with wide latitude for independent judgment, initiative, problem solving and creativity, the Director of Program Operations will oversee performance management for the Division of Environmental Health with a focus on continual improvement, quality assurance, and efficiency. This role will coordinate 311 operations, service request response, analytics, and strategy for the Division of Environmental Health, track implementation of new program initiatives, and conduct planning for the Division to maintain core services in the event of a broad emergency activation. The Director will collaborate with internal partners to innovate and improve, including developing/tracking performance metrics to optimize operations, and represent Division of Environmental Health leadership in collaboration with City partners and external stakeholders.

Requirements

  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university
  • Five years of full-time paid experience acquired within the last fifteen years, of supervisory or administrative experience including handling of business promotion or urban economic problems
  • At least 2 years of which must have been in a managerial or executive capacity with primary focus on business promotion or urban economic planning
  • A four-year high school diploma or its equivalent approved by a State's Department of Education or a recognized accrediting organization.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee performance management for the Division of Environmental Health with a focus on continual improvement, quality assurance, and efficiency.
