About The Position

Wood Mackenzie is seeking a full-time Director, Power Market Intelligence, to lead its North American power market advisory team. This team provides daily fundamental and price forecasts for seven ISOs (ERCOT, PJM, MISO, SPP, CAISO, NYISO, and ISO-NE) and supports over 100 daily customer interactions. The role involves driving team transformation, enhancing output quality, increasing automation for tailored customer advisory, and building customer trust and expertise. This position reports to Wood Mackenzie Trading Analytics leadership.

Requirements

  • At least seven years of experience in North American power market analysis, forecasting, or trading
  • Expertise across multiple ISOs
  • Direct exposure to desk environments where analysts informed live market decisions
  • Thorough understanding of day-ahead, real-time, and congestion dynamics
  • About four years of experience leading a team of three or more analysts or researchers, with a record of helping people grow
  • Experience collaborating directly with customers, including traders, asset owners, and retailers, as a trusted advisory voice
  • Familiarity with technology and tooling decisions, including forecasting methodologies and modeling platforms
  • The ability to engage in detail with product and engineering teams on automation priorities, understanding what to systematize, and why
  • Experience building or rebuilding analyst teams in fast-paced environments, including defining capability frameworks, talent benchmarking and management, and creating retention strategies
  • A thorough understanding of power market price forecasting and where Wood Mackenzie's approach creates the most value for customers
  • The ability to connect research quality to customer outcomes, understanding how analyst work translates into satisfaction, loyalty, and long-term partnerships
  • Effective communication and listening skills, with the ability to translate complex market dynamics clearly for customers, colleagues, and leadership, and to hear what is not being said as well as what is
  • Comfortable working through uncertainty and change collaboratively

Responsibilities

  • Strengthening customer relationships
  • Owning the quality of analyst output across the seven American ISOs, including accuracy of forecasts, depth of commentary, and responsiveness to customer questions and feedback
  • Serving as a trusted, approachable point of contact for key North American accounts, building relationships grounded in genuine market understanding and responsiveness
  • Working closely with Sales and Customer Success to understand customer value and ensure product/service improvements reflect customer needs
  • Fostering a personalized service culture where analysts know their accounts, share insights proactively, and deliver analysis tailored to each customer's specific portfolio
  • Shaping the team to deliver better customer outcomes
  • Owning the team's evolution from a centralized, manually intensive operation to a customized advisory model, defining the end state, sequencing change, and driving progress
  • Defining the automation agenda for the MI team, prioritizing workflows and partnering with analysts, data scientists, and engineering to implement these investments
  • Aligning team structure and talent strategy with leadership, and executing plans to improve coverage and responsiveness to customer needs
  • Developing and caring for people by recruiting, developing, and retaining senior market analysts across North America, with a commitment to understanding individual goals and career development
  • Revising the career framework for the market intelligence team, considering customer needs for market specialization, analytical rigor, and relationship management, with consistent milestones, regular feedback, and flexibility across career tracks
  • Collaborating with HR on compensation, benchmarking, and retention strategies
  • Contributing to strategy and direction by maintaining a sharp view on customer needs, market dynamics, and the competitive landscape, and translating this into a plan for evolving Wood Mackenzie's analytical capabilities
  • Contributing to the Trading Analytics product strategy and roadmap, connecting the team's market experience to longer-horizon product improvements
  • Traveling across the customer footprint to work in-person with analyst teams and customers
  • Owning the team’s contributions to customer retention and satisfaction, working with product, sales, and customer success, and driving accountability for high service standards
