About The Position

Kindred Hospital San Diego is a 70-bed long-term acute care hospital offering extended recovery care. We partner with physicians and provide 24-hour clinical care seven days a week. The hospital features an eight-bed ICU and two negative pressure rooms and is located near downtown San Diego. The Director of Pharmacy directs and coordinates the functions and activities of the Pharmacy Department. This role ensures compliance with patient care quality standards, manages the purchase and inventory of pharmaceuticals and supplies, and oversees the department's planning, revenue analysis, budgeting, education, and human resource management. The Director consults with Administration, Medical staff, and hospital staff on quality, regulatory, and risk issues within the Pharmacy Department and participates in all JCAHO and regulatory body surveys. They also serve as a consultant to Medical staff and clinical personnel on pharmaceutical-related matters.

Requirements

  • Must read, write and speak fluent English.
  • Must have good and regular attendance.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy is required from an accredited college of pharmacy.
  • Current Pharmacist licensure in the state where the hospital is located.
  • BCLS certification.
  • Four years experience in Pharmacy Management including Performance Management preferred.
  • Experience in coordinating meetings.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA, JCAHO, CMS and state guidelines.
  • Clinical background in patient care field required.

Nice To Haves

  • PharmD and Master’s Degree preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Directs and coordinates functions and activities of the Pharmacy Departments.
  • Ensures compliance with patient care quality standards; directs and controls the purchase and inventory maintenance of all pharmaceuticals and related substances, supplies; directs and participates in the department’s planning, revenue analysis, budgeting, education, and human resource management activities.
  • Consults with and advises Administration, Medical staff and hospital staff on quality, regulatory and risk issues within the department of Pharmacy.
  • Participates in all JCAHO and regulatory body surveys.
  • Supports and serves as consultant to all Medical staff and clinical service personnel on pharmaceutical related issues.
  • Participates in planning and creating the hospital’s strategic, operational, service design and other organizational plans and policies to achieve the mission and vision of the hospital.
  • Plans and develops departmental budgets, revenue, capital and operational expenses, sufficient number of staff, and any other plans for allocation of fiscal or other resources according to the scope of services provided.
  • Develops, designs and provides for a written scope of services, departmental policies and procedures that guide and support the provision and integration of services according to mission and vision of the hospital.
  • Directs the coordination and integration of departmental services with other departments and the hospital's primary functions.
  • Communicates the hospital’s mission, vision, and plans with staff that guides them in their day-to-day activities.
  • Promotes and motivates staff members to implement department and hospital operational, programmatic and other plans.
  • Recommends and determines the sufficient number of staff to provide services and defines qualifications, performance expectations and competence of each person.
  • Provides for orientation, in-service training, continuing education, annual performance and competency reviews of department personnel to ensure staff is competent to provide services.
  • Participates in hospital and departmental performance improvement activities to measure and assess the quality of services provided.
