About The Position

The Director of Pharmacy is a licensed pharmacist responsible for planning, organizing, directing, and providing safe and appropriate pharmacy services for Option Care patients in assigned areas and locations. This role ensures compliance with Option Care policies, professional standards, and regulatory requirements. The Director of Pharmacy coordinates patient services with nursing, delivery, and reimbursement departments, and manages the budgeting, purchasing, control, and security of all drug products and medical supplies for supervised pharmacies. They also assist the Senior Director of Operations (SDO) in meeting operational and financial goals for Regional Compounding Centers (RCC) or Centers of Excellence (COE).

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of pharmacy.
  • Experience compounding sterile products and managing patient care.
  • Licensed as a Pharmacist in each state where assigned pharmacies are located.
  • At least 5 years of pharmacy management experience in a specialty pharmacy or compounding pharmacy setting.
  • At least 5 years of experience directly managing people, including hiring, developing, motivating, and directing them.
  • At least 3 years of experience in indirect management of team members, including assisting in development, training, and assignment of work/projects.
  • At least 3 years of experience planning, developing, and managing departmental expense and budgets.
  • Experience overseeing purchasing and inventory process of all pharmaceutical and related substances and supplies.
  • Access to a reliable means of transportation (if personal vehicle, valid driver’s license and proof of insurance required).
  • Active membership in a related state or national clinical, pharmaceutical, or home health care organization.
  • Experience in identifying operational issues and recommending/implementing strategies to resolve problems.
  • Experience providing customer service to internal and external customers.
  • Basic level skill in Microsoft Word.
  • Basic level skill in Microsoft Excel.
  • Basic skill level in Microsoft PowerPoint.
  • Willing to travel up to 75% of the time for business purposes (within state and out of state).

Nice To Haves

  • Post-graduate residency program in clinical pharmacy services.
  • Board certification in Nutrition Support Pharmacy, Pharmacotherapy or other clinical pharmacy practice area.
  • Experience managing inventory and logistics.
  • At least 5 years of experience compounding sterile products and managing complex infusion patients.
  • At least 3 years of experience overseeing purchasing and inventory process of all pharmaceutical and related substances and supplies.
  • At least 3 years of experience planning, developing, and managing departmental expense and capital budgets.

Responsibilities

  • Determines suitability of patients for home care.
  • Supervises, monitors, and evaluates the quality and effectiveness of patient care provided by pharmacy staff.
  • Oversees and/or manages daily activities related to effective operations and communications.
  • Oversees and/or directs the activities of pharmacies in assigned areas and locations.
  • Schedules work activities of pharmacy staff to meet patient pharmaceutical care needs.
  • Develops and mentors staff through onboarding, open communication, training, development opportunities, and performance management.
  • Oversees product purchasing, inventory, budget, and equipment management.
  • Assists the SDO in preparing, securing approval for, and implementing operating and expenditure budgets, and operates within those guidelines.
  • Evaluates and oversees the purchase, management, and security of all medications, pumps, and medical supplies according to Option Care policies and formulary guidelines.
  • Provides support to sales professionals and general managers by accurately describing available services.
  • Meets with managed care organizations and other accounts to educate them regarding available services.
  • May serve as the Administrator in Charge with the Nurse Manager in the absence of the SrDO.
  • Collects and organizes patient-specific information to prevent, detect, and resolve medication-related problems and make appropriate recommendations.
  • Monitors clinical staff's clinical documentation for home care and ATS patients.
  • Evaluates competency in the use of pharmacokinetic principles and formulas.
  • Coordinates and participates in on-call responsibilities of the pharmacy department, ensuring reliable pharmacy coverage.
  • Manages the use of investigational drug products according to regulations and policies.
  • Complies with accreditation, legal, regulatory, and safety requirements in all activities.
