About The Position

As a Director of Pharmacy, you will lead all aspects of pharmacy operations, including planning, organizing, and supervising services in alignment with hospital policies, professional standards, and regulatory requirements. You will collaborate with hospital leadership to implement innovative pharmacy practices, supported by proprietary CPS software, a dedicated support team including experts in operations, clinical, and regulatory as well as a CPS Area Director or Senior Vice President. Schedule: This full-time position works at least 40 hours per week, primarily Monday through Friday. There may be occasional weekends/on-call to provide PTO coverage for a Staff Pharmacist. About the Facility: Ottumwa Regional Health Center is an 88-bed, Joint Commission accredited hospital. They provide a wide range of health services, including emergency medicine, critical care services, medical/surgical, acute rehabilitation, obstetrics, and pediatrics, as well as specialty services such as cardiac catheterization, diagnostic and therapeutic radiological services, wound care, pain clinic, sleep lab, pathology, and so much more. About the Pharmacy: Hours of operation are 6:30am-6:00pm, Monday-Friday, and 7:00am-3:30pm, weekends and holidays. The Pharmacy utilizes Meditech Order Entry software, Omnicell dispensing cabinets, Blue Sight Control Check Controlled Substance surveillance software as well as Sentri7 for clinical interventions and documentation.

Requirements

  • ACPE-accredited pharmacy degree
  • Current Iowa Pharmacist license in good standing

Nice To Haves

  • PharmD
  • 3+ years of pharmacy management experience working in an acute care hospital setting

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership and oversight for all pharmacy services within a single hospital, aligning operations with the hospital’s clinical, quality, and financial goals
  • Ensure safe, effective, and evidence-based medication use, overseeing clinical pharmacy practice, medication safety, and formulary management
  • Lead, develop, and hold accountability for pharmacy leadership and staff, including managers, pharmacists, technicians, and support teams
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory, accreditation, and legal requirements, including Joint Commission, CMS, USP, BOP and state/federal laws
  • Oversee pharmacy financial performance, including budgeting, purchasing, contract management, and cost-containment initiatives
  • Collaborate with executive leadership and interdisciplinary stakeholders, supporting system-wide patient care, quality, and safety initiatives
  • Drive innovation, performance improvement, and strategic growth, leveraging data, technology, and best practices to advance pharmacy services
