About The Position

Carolina Family Health Centers, Inc. is a nonprofit, federally qualified health center (FQHC) dedicated to providing accessible and affordable healthcare to the community. Our integrated model offers primary medical care, behavioral health, pharmacy, and dental services. The Director of Patient Support Services oversees the medical records and referrals department and plays a key role in monitoring and leading value-based care initiatives. This role requires a strong understanding of health information technology, including coding, eCQM, and medical terminology, as well as the ability to assess system functionality and develop efficient processes. Knowledge of HIPAA, compliance, risk management, quality assurance, and value-based reimbursement is essential.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management, Health Information Technology, Healthcare Administration, Data Analytics, or Science in Nursing.
  • Minimum of two years of experience working in a healthcare facility with a focus on medical records, referrals, or similar experience.
  • Minimum of two years of supervisory/management experience.
  • Team player with effective organizational and communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Experience with electronic health record systems.
  • For HIT/HIM candidates, must have registration/certification in one or more areas of health information technology: Registered Health Information Technologist, Certified Professional in Health Information Technology (CPHIT), Certified Professional in Electronic Health Records (CPEHR), Certified Professional in Health Information Exchange (CPHIE), or Certified Professional in Operating Rules Administration (CPORA).

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct supervision to the Medical Record Supervisor and Referrals Supervisor, including interviewing, hiring, training, and performance evaluation.
  • Assesses, develops, and monitors functionality and workflows in the electronic health records system to ensure efficient processing and retrieval of medical records and specialty referrals.
  • Provides back-up support to the medical records and referrals departments as needed.
  • Facilitates staff access to payer platforms, Care Link, and other hospital systems for submission and retrieval of specialty and imaging reports.
  • Oversees the Rex Hospital Mobile Mammography Bus clinic days to ensure women receive their screening mammograms.
  • Serves as a Site Specialist for OCHIN Epic and acts as a contact person for staff regarding system issues and password resets.
  • Ensures compliance with HIPAA and HITECH rules and regulations within Carolina Family Health Centers, Inc., and stays current with regulatory revisions.
