Director of Operations, Slate Development

ScopelyCulver City, CA
$139,400 - $205,000Hybrid

About The Position

Scopely is looking for a Director, Slate Operations to join our Slate Development Group team in the US remotely or in Culver City on a flexible hybrid model. At Scopely, we care deeply about what we do and want to inspire play every day - whether in our work environments alongside our talented colleagues or through our deep connections with our communities of players. We are a global team of game lovers who are developing, publishing and innovating the mobile games industry, connecting millions of people around the world daily. Slate Operations keeps Scopely's game development slate moving. We oversee execution and cross-functional alignment across the games in development — connecting game teams and central teams so decisions get made once and stick, running the cadence that keeps everyone aligned, and clearing the path so teams can build.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree, MBA a plus — or the equivalent in experience.
  • 10+ years in program/project management across tech and direct-to-consumer businesses, at least 5 of them in games, working within or alongside a development team.
  • You know how games get made and sold — development, publishing, platforms, business models. You don't need to have shipped one yourself, but you get what game teams are up against.
  • You've supported senior execs in a fast-moving environment and you like the pace — taking initiative, juggling priorities, switching gears without losing the thread.
  • You can run a lot of projects at once, ideally a mix of R&D and live.
  • You're comfortable in ambiguity and good at creating clarity for other people. You make sound calls in the company's interest and know when to escalate.
  • You can hold your own with P&Ls and free-to-play KPIs.
  • You spot the process that's slowing people down and fix it — and you'll push back and start the right debate when it matters.
  • You build trust with all kinds of people at every level and don't flinch at the hard conversations — with the presence to grow into a partner to senior game leaders over time.
  • You write clearly and fast, and you can build a strong deck with cross-functional input.
  • Detail and organization come naturally to you.
  • Low ego, business outcomes first, open to feedback — and genuinely curious about every part of the business.
  • You play games and care about the industry.

Responsibilities

  • Be the operational point of contact for specific in-development games — running the GDF cadence and connecting game and central teams so decisions get made once and aren't re-litigated. The main goal is to be the end to end steward for game teams in the game development framework.
  • Deliver operational excellence within our internal team, shaping our service model, priorities, and ways of working. Evolve our capabilities as needs change.
  • Drive the cross-slate operating model so independent game teams reuse what already works instead of rebuilding it.
  • Bring structure to consequential decisions — organize the inputs, assumptions, and trade-offs early so the owners and the room can reach real alignment before committing.
  • Own a capstone project — one meaty area you drive end to end, for example: evolving the GDF, owning launch readiness, or operationalizing central partnerships, depending on where the need is.
  • Keep investment decisions well-informed — track progress across games at different stages, and surface Greenlight Case, budget, staffing, and dependency status so leadership can challenge and decide.
  • Unblock teams through the development cycle, especially at launch readiness, by clearing operational issues with central partners (legal, IT, procurement, finance, logistics) so teams stay focused on the game. Partner with marketing, strategy, and divisional leadership so launches go out clean.
  • Give teams operational support — production perspective, process, facilitation, and help navigating the GDF.
  • Operationalize playtests and validation — help build and run research, playtest, and validation plans, and package the findings so vertical owners and leaders can form the recommendation.
  • Utilize the latest AI technologies to keep information flowing — the dashboards, status, and key dates people need to see, without the overhead.
