Director of Nursing (DON)
About The Position
BrightStar Care of Westfield & Summit is seeking an experienced, motivated, and entrepreneurial-minded Director of Nursing (DON) to lead their clinical home care team and help expand skilled nursing and wellness services. This role offers an opportunity for an RN to lead, grow, innovate, and make a significant impact. The agency is Joint Commission-accredited and focuses on private duty home care with plans for growth in skilled services, infusion therapy, wound care, post-surgical recovery, and concierge-style wellness programs. This position is ideal for a nurse leader seeking autonomy, flexibility, and the ability to shape a clinical program.
Requirements
- Active New Jersey RN license in good standing
- BSN required
- 3+ years of leadership experience in home care, home health, or post-acute care
- Strong leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills
- Knowledge of NJ home care regulations and compliance
Nice To Haves
- MSN preferred
- Experience with wound care, infusion therapy, or complex skilled nursing preferred
Responsibilities
- Oversee all personal care, skilled nursing services and clinical operations.
- Maintain a hands-on clinical leadership presence by assisting with patient visits and field support as needed.
- Conduct assessments, supervisory visits, and clinical reviews.
- Support complex cases including wound care and infusion therapy.
- Ensure compliance with New Jersey Board of Nursing, Division of Consumer Affairs, NJ home care regulations, Joint Commission standards, and BrightStar Care policies and procedures.
- Lead clinical audits, documentation reviews, and survey preparedness activities.
- Maintain high standards for patient outcomes and documentation.
- Recruit, mentor, and supervise CHHAs, LPNs and RN and clinical staff.
- Oversee the overall clinical operation, coordination of care, documentation standards, compliance, scheduling oversight, and interdisciplinary communication.
- Lead in-services, training, and clinical development.
- Foster a positive, supportive clinical culture.
- Help grow skilled nursing and wellness service revenue streams.
- Build referral relationships with physicians, hospitals, rehab facilities, discharge planners, Veteran Affairs and BrightStar Care National Accounts.
- Collaborate with ownership on the development and expansion of skilled nursing and wellness services.
