About The Position

The DON ensures that all nursing activities meet professional standards and patient care protocols. They supervise and enforce established nursing protocols and policies, monitor outcomes, and implement evidence-based practices to maintain high-quality care across the facilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelors of Nursing (BSN) from an accredited college is required and/or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Five years as an RN with supervisory experience.
  • Registered Nurse.
  • Knowledge of nursing best practices.
  • Knowledge of the principles, procedures, techniques, trends, and literature related to mental health, physical health, intellectual disabilities and substance abuse.
  • Knowledge of psychiatric/medical medications/treatments.
  • Knowledge of behavioral healthcare medical terminology.
  • Willing and available to work modified schedules (weekends, holiday, etc.) as required.
  • Ability to drive and must possess a valid driver’s license.

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to participate in and successfully pass behavioral intervention training; includes both verbal de-escalation skills and physical skills techniques to be utilized with consumers as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and enforce established nursing protocols and policies.
  • Monitor outcomes.
  • Implement evidence-based practices to maintain high-quality care across the facilities.
  • Administer medications.
  • Analyze situations accurately and develop appropriate responses or techniques.
  • Communicate effectively to facilitate treatment and relay information to others as part of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Perform medical interviews to obtain information and formulate appropriate treatment plans and referrals.
  • Promote positive, collaborative, and professional working relations among co-workers and representatives in the community.
  • Record data and complete documentation within established expectations and by communicated deadlines.
  • Respond effectively to changes in the work environment in a positive and professional manner.
  • Work in and contribute to a collaborative team environment.
  • Drive and travel to Horizon worksites, transport clients, and provide services to clients at other locations.
  • Attend trainings and Horizon meetings, which may require travel to various Horizon sites.
  • Participate in and successfully pass behavioral intervention training, including verbal de-escalation skills and physical skills techniques.
