About The Position

This role is responsible for the administration and oversight of all operational aspects of Critical Care and Emergency Services to achieve quality processes and outcomes. The Director plans and directs the administrative and operational functions of Intermediate, Critical Care and Emergency Services to provide quality patient care, maximize revenues, attract new patients and meet regulatory requirements. They work with managers to prepare and administer departmental operating and capital budgets, monitor departmental productivity levels and work functions, and identify areas for operations and efficiency improvement. The Director also leads strategic planning, marketing, and new program development efforts, including planning and implementing new services, assessing fiscal feasibility, and marketing these services. They develop and maintain collaborative relationships with department managers/directors, physicians, system-wide contacts, and external contacts. Additionally, the Director is responsible for the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and standards that align with system, Medical Center, and regulatory guidelines, and oversees personnel alignment within the division to support quality, efficiency, budgetary, and strategic goal attainment. They also lead initiatives to improve customer and associate satisfaction.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a healthcare related field.
  • Advanced degree in Nursing, Business Administration, Hospital Administration or a related field.
  • 5-7 years experience in healthcare management.
  • Good management skills, including ability to work well with others, team building skills, communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work across lines and promote good relationships among departments.
  • Familiarity with healthcare finance.
  • Current Illinois RN license

Responsibilities

  • Plans and directs the administrative and operational functions of Intermediate, Critical Care and Emergency Services to provide quality patient care, maximize revenues, attract new patients and meet regulatory requirements.
  • Works with managers to prepare and administer the departmental operating and capital budgets to ensure sufficient funds and personnel to accomplish departmental objectives within approved financial guidelines.
  • Monitors departmental productivity levels and work functions to ensure proper staff and resource utilization. Promotes the development of staff within the department.
  • Works with leadership personnel to identify areas for operations and efficiency improvement, and implementation of appropriate changes.
  • Develops and implements long and short range goals and objectives, policies and procedures to meet the demands for service in keeping with strategic plans.
  • Leads strategic planning, marketing, and new program development efforts, which includes ongoing collaboration with hospital and corporate management.
  • Plans and implements new services. Determines in conjunction with Vice President the fiscal feasibility of establishing new or expanded services, including the reimbursement component, division profitability, training needs for staff, availability of services, etc.
  • Markets and promotes Intermediate, Critical care and Emergency Services in conjunction with other departments involved in the service line success. Continually monitors the service line growth and maintenance and recommends marketing strategies based on observed statistics and market needs and trends. Works with public relations to develop brochures, pamphlets, marketing tools, etc.
  • Conducts Intermediate, Critical Care and Emergency Services competitor analyses as appropriate to determine program growth and market share and to keep abreast of any trends or changes. Develops and oversees the compilation of statistical information to be used for current operations and future plans. Develops and implements business plan for service line.
  • Assesses, monitors and adjusts pricing and billing practices to meet appropriateness targets and optimize reimbursement levels within regulatory guidelines.
  • Works closely with department physician leadership in operational, personnel, staffing and fiduciary areas to support service line quality.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with physicians as well as other hospital managers/directors and staff not only for service line-related initiatives, but also for other assigned leadership roles.
  • Monitors impact of division services on all other hospital services. Notifies other areas impacted by new and/or expanded services in order that planning for these services can be accomplished.
  • Acts as a liaison between physicians and other hospital departments to help resolve and troubleshoot problems.
  • Develops and maintains various relationships with external clients/contacts to promote department or hospital, ensure departmental growth or enhance hospital community image through participatory, educational or service contributions.
  • Facilitates and oversees the performance improvement programs for the division to assure alignment with corporate, industry and regulatory standards.
  • Monitors change in regulatory standards and makes changes in ACMC policy and procedures accordingly.
  • Ensures compliance with regulatory standards and guidelines through education, policy development and practice monitoring.
  • Oversight for interpretation of the bylaws, policies, rules and regulations by which the medical staff abide.
  • Promotes patient safety by reporting of issues through established channels and participating as requested in safety initiatives.
  • Works with directors and managers of the division to continually assess productivity.
  • Monitors patient and customer satisfaction levels and assesses for staffing factors and impact.
  • Make adjustments to staffing numbers and composition to optimize service goal achievement with volume, efficiency, and satisfaction parameters.
  • Use enhanced satisfaction as a consistent key element in all change processes.
  • Utilize staff teams along with management as decision-makers in satisfaction initiatives.
  • Continually assess controllable factors in achieving higher satisfaction levels and facilitate measures to improve.
