About The Position

The Director of Merchandise is responsible for building and scaling Memoir’s merchandise function into a meaningful revenue driver and brand extension of our immersive experiences. This role owns the full merchandise lifecycle—from concept and curation through procurement, pricing strategy, on-site execution, and post-show analysis. The Director will operate at the intersection of Creative, Operations, Fabrication, Finance, and Show Leadership to deliver a cohesive retail experience that enhances the guest journey while achieving aggressive financial targets. This is not a passive retail role. It requires a builder who can design systems, lead teams in the field, and treat merchandise as a core component of the show—not an afterthought.

Requirements

  • Experience in building and scaling merchandise functions.
  • Experience in managing the full merchandise lifecycle (concept, curation, procurement, pricing, execution, analysis).
  • Ability to operate at the intersection of Creative, Operations, Fabrication, Finance, and Show Leadership.
  • Experience in developing and implementing pricing, forecasting, and inventory planning strategies.
  • Experience in sourcing, negotiating with, and managing vendors and manufacturing partners.
  • Experience in leading retail experience design, including merchandising, store layout, and displays.
  • Experience in building and leading on-site operations, including staffing and training.
  • Experience with merchandise technology, POS systems, and inventory controls.
  • Experience in developing and overseeing inventory lifecycle strategies.
  • Strong cross-functional leadership skills.
  • Experience in building scalable systems, processes, and operating standards.

Responsibilities

  • Lead Merchandise P&L across all Memoir-owned and operated events.
  • Define, track, and improve key merchandise performance metrics, including revenue per guest, conversion rate, average order value, gross margin, and inventory performance.
  • Develop pricing, forecasting, and inventory planning strategies that support premium guest experiences and financial objectives.
  • Collaborate with Creative and show teams to develop merchandise assortments that align with each experience's story, brand, and guest journey.
  • Establish product mix and innovation strategies across custom, licensed, curated, and experiential merchandise offerings.
  • Source, negotiate, and manage domestic and international vendors, manufacturing partners, and product development timelines.
  • Lead the design and performance of the end-to-end retail experience, including merchandising, store layout, displays, and guest-facing retail environments.
  • Build and lead the on-site merchandise operation, including staffing, training, sales standards, and operational execution.
  • Oversee merchandise technology, POS systems, inventory controls, reporting, and integration with company operating systems.
  • Develop and oversee merchandise inventory lifecycle strategies, including procurement, replenishment, transfers, storage, reuse, and liquidation.
  • Serve as the primary cross-functional leader for merchandise strategy, partnering with Creative, Fabrication, Operations, Logistics, Marketing, Finance, and Show Leadership.
  • Build scalable merchandise systems, processes, and operating standards that support growth across multiple experiences, markets, and venues.
