About The Position

The Director of Marketing and Communications serves as the chief communications and marketing officer for Great Plains Technology Center and provides strategic leadership for the organization's marketing, communications, public relations, branding, media relations, digital presence, enrollment marketing, and community engagement efforts. The Director is responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive and measurable marketing and communications strategy that advances the mission and strategic priorities of Great Plains Technology Center; strengthens enrollment and program awareness; promotes CareerTech education and workforce development; strengthens relationships with business and industry; increases community engagement; and protects and enhances the reputation of the organization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, public relations, communications, journalism, advertising, public affairs, or a related field.
  • Minimum of five years of progressively responsible professional experience in marketing, communications, public relations, public affairs, journalism, or a related field demonstrating success in project management, strategic marketing and communications, development of professional communications across a broad scope of channels and audiences, and public relations.

  • Master's degree in marketing, public relations, communications, journalism, advertising, public affairs, education, or related field.
  • Experience in CareerTech, education, workforce development, economic development, public-sector communications, or a comparable environment demonstrating experience supervising and developing staff, serving as an organizational spokesperson, developing and implementing crisis communication, and working with a wide array of stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and continuously evaluate a comprehensive strategic marketing and communications plan aligned with the priorities of the Superintendent/CEO, Deputy Superintendent/COO, and Great Plains Technology Center.
  • Serve as a strategic communications advisor to the Superintendent/CEO, Deputy Superintendent/COO, and executive leadership.
  • Translate organizational priorities, initiatives, accomplishments, and challenges into clear, timely, accurate, and compelling communications for internal and external audiences.
  • In coordination with administration and staff, develop marketing strategies that increase awareness and enrollment in high school and adult programs, workforce development programs, and other programs delivered by the organization.
  • Develop measurable marketing strategies for individual programs based on enrollment goals, market demand, community needs, and employment opportunities.
  • Establish and monitor meaningful performance indicators for marketing and communications activities, including enrollment leads, inquiries, conversions, campaign performance, digital engagement, media exposure, website performance, and community reach.
  • Use data and analytics to evaluate marketing effectiveness and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Develop and maintain a strong, consistent Great Plains Technology Center brand and visual identity.
  • Ensure consistency, accuracy, professionalism, and appropriate tone across all print, digital, social media, web, advertising, publications, presentations, and other communications.
  • Lead the development of content for websites, social media, newsletters, brochures, annual reports, advertisements, presentations, press releases, media advisories, speeches, and official statements.
  • Serve as the primary media contact and spokesperson for organization.
  • Serve as the lead communications strategist during emergencies, crises, controversial issues, and other high-risk situations, responding promptly and professionally to urgent communications including those outside of normal business hours.
  • Develop and maintain productive relationships with local, regional, and industry media.
  • Proactively identify positive news opportunities and strategically promote student, employee, program, employer, and organizational accomplishments.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate the organization's Marketing and Communications Plan, Crisis Communication Plan, and an annual media relations strategy designed to increase positive awareness of Great Plains Technology Center and the outcomes of programs.
  • Coordinate communication between administration and employees, students, families, employers, community partners, media, and other stakeholders.
  • Develop internal communication strategies that improve employee awareness, engagement, consistency, and understanding of organizational priorities.
  • Promote Great Plains Technology Center's role in economic development and workforce development throughout the district and surrounding communities.
  • Build and maintain relationships with business and industry partners, chambers of commerce, economic development organizations, civic organizations, community leaders, and other strategic partners.
  • Lead marketing and communications support for major organizational events, recruitment activities, community events, legislative activities, employer events, and special initiatives.
  • Develop and manage the department's marketing and communications budget and ensure expenditures are aligned with organizational priorities and measurable outcomes.
  • Recruitment, selection, orientation, supervision, development, coaching, and evaluation of assigned personnel.
  • Establish clear departmental expectations, deadlines, priorities, performance standards, and accountability measures to ensure all departmental projects are completed accurately, professionally, on schedule, and within budget.
  • Maintain the highest level of confidentiality and discretion when handling sensitive, confidential, controversial, or executive-level information.
