About The Position

Founded in 1894, The Ebell of Los Angeles is one of the nation's oldest and largest women's organizations and one of Southern California's most distinctive cultural institutions. For more than 130 years, The Ebell has championed education, the arts, civic engagement, and the advancement of women. Today, The Ebell serves as a vibrant center for arts, ideas, education, and civic dialogue, presenting hundreds of performances, conversations, educational programs, exhibitions, and community events each year from its iconic Wilshire campus, including the historic 1,270-seat Ebell Theatre. As The Ebell approaches the Centennial of its historic campus, the organization is entering an exciting period of growth—expanding audiences, strengthening earned and contributed revenue, investing in technology and infrastructure, and building a bold vision for its second century. The Director of Marketing & Communications is a member of The Ebell's Senior Leadership Team and reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer. This position serves as the strategic leader responsible for advancing The Ebell's brand, public identity, audience engagement, and institutional reputation. The Director develops and executes integrated marketing and communications strategies that increase visibility, strengthen community engagement, grow earned and contributed revenue, and elevate The Ebell's profile as one of Los Angeles' leading cultural and civic institutions. The Director’s direct reports are a full-time Graphic Designer and a part-time Marketing Assistant. Additional department support includes a PR consultant, social media consultant, and additional graphics support. The Director would be able to hire the Marketing Assistant role, and would work with executive leadership to map out additional department staffing needs. The Director oversees marketing, communications, public relations, digital strategy, audience development, content creation, advertising, creative services, media relations, and institutional storytelling while partnering across Programming, Development, Membership, Private Events, Education, Finance, Operations, and Executive Leadership. As The Ebell prepares for the Centennial of its historic campus, the Director will lead brand strategy and communications that celebrate the organization's remarkable legacy while positioning it for its next century of impact.
