About The Position

The Director of Communications & Marketing is responsible for leading all aspects of the organization's communications, marketing, storytelling, editorial content, and brand strategy. This is a highly visible leadership position that combines strategic planning with hands-on execution. The successful candidate serves as the organization's chief storyteller, managing communications that strengthen alumni engagement, inspire philanthropy, elevate the organization's profile, and showcase the extraordinary impact of the school and its community. The Director reports to the Executive Director and supervises the organization's part-time Marketing Coordinator, communications interns, and student volunteers.

Requirements

  • 6 to 7+ years of communications and marketing experience required (ideally in a nonprofit or education environment)
  • Social Media experience required (producing content, etc.)
  • Familiarity with publishing/design software required (Adobe Creative Suite, etc.)
  • A writing sample will be required

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of Google Analytics and WordPress strongly preferred
  • Understanding of communications/marketing KPIs and benchmarks

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive communications and marketing strategy aligned with organizational priorities.
  • Serve as a communications advisor to the Executive Director and leadership team.
  • Ensure consistent messaging across all organizational communications.
  • Develop annual communications plans supporting fundraising, alumni engagement, programs, and visibility.
  • Protect and strengthen the organization's brand identity.
  • Serve as Managing Editor of the annual alumni publication magazine.
  • Develop editorial calendars and oversee production from concept through distribution.
  • Coordinate writers, photographers, designers, printers, freelancers, alumni contributors, and school partners.
  • Oversee annual reports, brochures, impact reports, invitations, donor recognition materials, and other publications.
  • Lead development of content for the website, email marketing, social media, print publications, video, speeches, executive communications, and event collateral.
  • Develop compelling stories that inspire alumni pride, philanthropic support, and community engagement.
  • Manage and continuously improve the organization website.
  • Develop email campaigns using internal software.
  • Lead social media strategy and optimize communications using analytics.
  • Leverage AI tools responsibly to improve productivity while maintaining editorial quality.
  • Partner with Development to create annual appeals, campaign messaging, stewardship communications, impact reports, case statements, grant materials, and event marketing.
  • Own the communications production calendar.
  • Coordinate multiple projects with competing deadlines.
  • Ensure communications projects are completed on time and within budget.
  • Supervise the part-time Marketing Coordinator, student interns, and volunteers.
  • Provide coaching, assign priorities, and foster collaboration across departments.
  • Serve as the primary communications contact for media relations, press releases, public announcements, and crisis communications.
  • Maintain brand standards and oversee quality control.
  • Manage external vendors including designers, printers, photographers, videographers, web developers, freelancers, and consultants.
  • Monitor website traffic, email performance, social engagement, campaign effectiveness, publication reach, media coverage, and fundraising communications.
  • Provide recommendations for continuous improvement.

  • anticipated annual salary of $90,000 starting
  • HOURLY RATE (while temporary): $40.00 - $42.00
