Director of Lifecycle Marketing

Amplify•San Francisco, CA

About The Position

Amplify is an early-stage, direct-to-consumer life insurance agency working with multiple top carriers and licensed in all 50 states. The Director of Lifecycle will build the lifecycle program from the ground up, owning the customer relationship from the initial quote through application, agent handoff, policy onboarding, retention, annual reviews, upgrades, and referrals. The role combines strategic leadership with hands-on execution: selecting and configuring tools, writing and launching campaigns, building journeys, and measuring results. The Director reports directly to the CMO and collaborates with licensed agents, product, data, compliance, and brand. As the program grows, this person will have the opportunity to build and lead a lifecycle team. In the first 90 days, the Director will audit current messaging, touchpoints, and data; map the customer journey; launch quick wins for quote follow-up, nurture, and agent handoff; establish policy delivery and onboarding communications; validate the lifecycle technology and data; and present a six-month strategy with priorities, targets, and measurement plans. The position is remote in the US, with compensation of $140,000–$160,000 OTE. Applicants should send a resume and a short note describing a lifecycle program they built and its impact; work samples are welcome. Amplify is an equal opportunity employer and welcomes applicants from all backgrounds.

Requirements

  • At least 8 years of experience in lifecycle, CRM, or retention marketing, including 2–3 years leading the function or a major part of it.
  • Demonstrated experience building a lifecycle program or a substantial part of one from scratch.
  • Experience marketing a considered purchase with a handoff to a sales or advisor team, such as insurance, financial services, or another high-ticket product.
  • Hands-on proficiency with at least one modern lifecycle platform such as Braze, Iterable, Customer.io, or Klaviyo; ability to build journeys end to end.
  • Experience executing marketing through compliance or legal review in a regulated category, including SMS and phone consent rules.
  • Strong analytical skills, including comfort with dashboards and spreadsheets, ability to write or read basic SQL, and experience designing tests with control groups.
  • Strong copywriting skills and ability to explain complex financial products in clear, human language.
  • Working knowledge of lifecycle data, including events, contact properties, identity resolution, and how CRM, CDP, or warehouse data feeds marketing tools.
  • Clear communication with executives and cross-functional partners, including explaining program value in revenue terms.
  • Ability to work hands-on in campaign tools and execute without relying on others to build journeys.
  • Ability to move quickly while working within a compliance review process and to treat customer inboxes and phones respectfully.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience at an early-stage or high-growth company, ideally as the first lifecycle hire.
  • Background in life insurance, annuities, wealth management, insurtech, or fintech.
  • Experience with retention or persistency programs where early cancellations carry a meaningful cost.
  • Familiarity with HTML/CSS for email, templating languages, or light scripting.
  • Experience building referral or partner programs.
  • Strong preference for experience with HubSpot.

Responsibilities

  • Audit existing messages, customer touchpoints, and data sources, and map the path from quote through application and policyholder status.
  • Launch initial quote follow-up, nurture, and digital-lead-to-agent handoff improvements.
  • Build policy delivery and early-onboarding communications to help customers keep coverage in force.
  • Validate and develop the lifecycle technology stack, including HubSpot, SMS, and supporting tools; ensure lifecycle data is trustworthy.
  • Develop a six-month lifecycle strategy with priorities, targets, and a measurement plan.
  • Own lifecycle strategy and execution across email, SMS, and handoffs to the agent team.
  • Build and operate automated journeys for quote follow-up, nurture, application completion, agent handoff, policy delivery, early-tenure retention, annual reviews, term conversion and upsell, referrals, and re-engagement of stalled leads.
  • Write, design or brief, build, quality-check, and launch campaigns hands-on.
  • Define segmentation and personalization by customer segment, product, funnel stage, and customer value.
  • Partner with agents on lead routing, speed to lead, and communications before and after calls.
  • Run a test-and-learn program using appropriate holdout groups.
  • Partner with product on online quote and application experiences and with data on event tracking and attribution.
  • Work within compliance review processes and protect deliverability, list health, and consent.
  • Report lifecycle impact using measures including quote-to-application conversion, customer acquisition cost, commission revenue payback, and early-lapse rates.
  • Build and lead a lifecycle team as the program scales.
