About The Position

Beacon College, an accredited institution dedicated to serving neurodivergent students through a holistic and entrepreneurial approach, seeks a visionary Director of Library Services. This leader will oversee all library operations, delivering innovative, accessible resources and programs that support student success, faculty teaching, and institutional goals. The ideal candidate brings academic library leadership experience, a commitment to inclusive practices, and a passion for empowering neurodivergent learners. The Director of Library Services leads and manages the College’s library and information resources in support of its mission and academic programs. This role oversees the development and assessment of library services, collections, and technologies that support student success, faculty, and institutional effectiveness. The Director ensures resources are accessible to Beacon College’s neurodivergent students and aligned with accreditation standards and best practices.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Library and Information Science (MLIS) or equivalent degree from an ALA-accredited institution.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in an academic library.
  • Demonstrated experience with library technologies, electronic resources, and academic library operations.
  • Experience managing budgets and supervising staff.
  • Strong organizational, communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience using and analyzing data to evaluate services, support decision-making, and prepare reports.
  • Knowledge of emerging trends in academic libraries and information literacy frameworks, including student learning assessment.
  • Ability to lead and manage change in a collaborative environment and work effectively with diverse constituencies.
  • Commitment to student success and inclusive educational practices.

Nice To Haves

  • Five or more years of academic library leadership experience.
  • Experience working and teaching in higher education.
  • Experience supporting students with learning differences, disabilities, or neurodivergent populations.
  • Experience with accreditation, assessment, and institutional effectiveness processes.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership and oversight for all library operations, services, personnel, collections, facilities, and budgets.
  • Develop and implement long-range plans that align library services with institutional priorities and strategic goals.
  • Establish and assess annual goals, objectives, and performance measures for library services.
  • Supervise, train, evaluate, and support library personnel.
  • Manage library budgets and expenditures in a fiscally responsible manner.
  • Develop and maintain library policies, procedures, and operational guidelines.
  • Direct selection, acquisition, organization, maintenance, and evaluation of print and electronic collections.
  • Ensure adequate access to scholarly databases, journals, e-books, and other learning resources that support academic programs.
  • Evaluate resource utilization and make recommendations regarding acquisitions, subscriptions, and collection development.
  • Maintain relationships with vendors, consortia, and resource-sharing organizations.
  • Collaborate with faculty to integrate information literacy and research skills into the curriculum.
  • Develop and deliver library instruction, workshops, orientations, and research support services.
  • Provide reference and research assistance to students, faculty, and staff.
  • Promote student engagement with library resources and services.
  • Support accessible learning practices and Universal Design for Learning principles that address the needs of neurodivergent learners.
  • Oversee library systems, technologies, and digital resources.
  • Monitor emerging trends in library science, educational technology, artificial intelligence, and information management.
  • Ensure effective access to online resources for on-campus and remote users.
  • Coordinate with Information Technology personnel regarding library technology needs.
  • Collect, analyze, and report library assessment data to support continuous improvement.
  • Conduct regular evaluations of library resources, services, and user satisfaction.
  • Maintain documentation and evidence necessary for accreditation reviews and institutional reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable accreditation standards, including SACSCOC requirements related to library and learning resources.
  • Contribute to institutional effectiveness initiatives and assessment activities.
  • Serve on institutional committees and task forces as assigned.
  • Collaborate with faculty, academic support personnel, Learning Specialists, and administrators to support student success.
  • Develop partnerships that enhance library services and learning opportunities.
  • Represent the College in professional organizations and community partnerships.
