Director of IT
About The Position
BillionToOne is seeking a Director of IT to oversee and manage DevOps and IT strategy. The role will help maintain and enhance IT systems to support business operations and company growth, with a focus on networking, infrastructure management, AWS cloud services, and cybersecurity. The position is hybrid, with onsite work 2–3 days per week, and reports to the VP of IT/IS. The Director of IT will develop IT strategies aligned with the company's scaling goals; lead the IT team; oversee cloud infrastructure and networking; and manage AWS architecture, security, and cost efficiency. The role also ensures compliance with applicable standards and regulations, leads IT projects, manages vendor relationships, oversees IT support and asset lifecycle processes, and establishes policies and procedures. BillionToOne is a molecular diagnostics company focused on making accurate diagnostic tests accessible. The company describes its culture as transparent, collaborative, and mission-driven, and reports having over 700 employees.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- At least 8 years of experience in IT.
- At least 3 years of experience in a managerial or leadership role.
- Extensive experience with networking technologies, infrastructure management, and AWS cloud services.
- Proficiency in LAN, WAN, VPN, firewall, and other networking technologies.
- Strong knowledge of server and storage systems, virtualization, and data centers.
- Expertise in AWS services, architecture, and best practices.
- Experience with IT security protocols and compliance standards.
- Excellent leadership and team management skills.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.

- SOC 2 experience is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement IT strategies aligned with the company's scaling goals.
- Lead and manage the IT team, fostering excellence and continuous improvement.
- Oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of cloud infrastructure and establish it as a service for the organization.
- Ensure the reliability, security, and efficiency of networking systems.
- Manage network configuration, performance monitoring, and troubleshooting.
- Oversee setup, configuration, and maintenance of servers, storage, and other infrastructure components.
- Implement and manage disaster recovery and business continuity plans.
- Design and manage scalable, performant, and secure AWS cloud infrastructure.
- Oversee the strategy, deployment, and management of AWS services, including EC2, S3, RDS, and VPC.
- Optimize cloud resources for cost efficiency and performance.
- Implement and manage cloud security policies and procedures.
- Maintain and update IT security measures to protect against data breaches and cyber threats.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA, SOC 2, and other relevant standards and regulations.
- Conduct regular security audits and vulnerability assessments.
- Lead IT projects from conception through completion, delivering on time and within budget.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support IT needs for company initiatives.
- Manage vendor relationships and negotiate contracts for IT services and products.
- Oversee IT support to ensure timely technical issue resolution and a high standard of service satisfaction.
- Maintain an inventory of IT assets and manage lifecycle processes.
- Implement IT policies and procedures and ensure staff adherence.
