About The Position

Scale Computing is hiring a Director of IT to lead corporate IT, including end-user services, identity, endpoints, collaboration and business SaaS platforms, office networks, and the IT service desk. The role owns how IT work is received, prioritized, delivered, and reported, and is accountable for the cost, reliability, and security of the corporate technology estate. The position is full-time and in-office, based in the Austin, Texas, or Indianapolis, Indiana, office. The role is suited to a leader who has consolidated IT environments after an acquisition, can explain how planned and unplanned IT work is managed, and measures success through delivered outcomes and cost reduction rather than tickets closed. The Director develops the IT team, oversees budgets and vendors, applies AI assistance to reduce IT workload, and represents IT in change management, incident escalation, and cross-functional planning.

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Demonstrated fluency running Jira Service Management or an equivalent ITSM platform, including designing request catalogs, workflows, and SLAs.
  • Hands-on depth with workforce identity systems such as Entra ID/Azure AD, Okta, JumpCloud, or Google Workspace; SSO/MFA; and endpoint management platforms such as Intune, Jamf, or equivalent.
  • Track record of consolidating IT environments, tools, and service desks.
  • Experience owning an IT budget and negotiating SaaS and hardware vendor contracts.
  • Experience supporting audits against at least one of PCI-DSS, SOC 2, or ISO 27001.
  • Working use of AI tooling in an IT operations or leadership context.
  • People-leadership fundamentals, including development planning, performance management, hiring, and mentorship.
  • Clear written and verbal communication with technical teams and executive stakeholders.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a managed-services or multi-tenant environment with customer-facing compliance obligations.
  • Scripting or automation skills in PowerShell, Python, or Bash, and experience automating identity and endpoint workflows.
  • ITIL certification; PMP or Agile/Scrum.

Responsibilities

  • Own the IT service desk, including intake, request catalog, queue structure, prioritization, SLA definition and attainment, and knowledge base.
  • Consolidate duplicate workflows inherited from legacy organizations into a single IT service model and retire redundant tooling.
  • Own workforce identity and access lifecycle, including Google Workspace, SSO, MFA, HR-integrated joiner/mover/leaver processes, and least-privilege access in partnership with Security.
  • Own endpoint management, including MDM, patching, imaging, encryption, and EDR deployment coverage across Windows, macOS, and mobile devices.
  • Manage the SaaS portfolio and IT vendors, including license utilization, renewals, contract negotiation, rationalization of overlapping tools, and SaaS administration ownership.
  • Own IT asset management, including hardware lifecycle, procurement standards, inventory accuracy, and secure disposal.
  • Own office and remote-worker connectivity, conferencing, and collaboration services across company locations.
  • Build and manage the IT budget, reporting on spend by category, cost per employee, and savings delivered.
  • Use AI assistance to reduce IT workload through ticket deflection, triage, knowledge authoring, and scripting, and set standards for its use and verification of outputs.
  • Develop the IT team, maintain a documented development plan and named ownership area for every team member, and address underperformance promptly with documented plans.
  • Represent IT in change management, incident escalation, and cross-functional planning with Business Systems, Finance, HR, Platform Infrastructure, and Security.
