About The Position

The Director of Institutional Giving and Development Operations is responsible for designing and implementing a comprehensive, donor-centric fundraising plan with a focus on renewing current support and raising new contributions from foundations, government entities and corporations. The plan should build upon the success of existing fundraising efforts while creating new ways of identifying, cultivating, and soliciting new donors, as well as retaining and upgrading current donors and constituents. Oversee all aspects of grant management. Develop operations to ensure the organization achieves its fundraising goals and sustains growth.

Requirements

  • Minimum of five-years exposure and/or experience within an organization that has a progressive Development Department
  • Experience with donor communications including written letters/notes, phone calls, virtual and in-person meetings
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Strong written communication skills with the ability to write structured, grammatically, and substantially correct Proposals
  • Excellent attention to detail and timely follow-up, with the ability to meet deadlines
  • Good working knowledge of current trends in institutional engagement and charitable giving
  • Knowledge and familiarity with research techniques for fundraising prospect research.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to work well independently and in a team environment
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments and understand priorities
  • Familiarity with donor record-keeping
  • Valid driver’s license, own vehicle and good driving record

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive strategy aligned with the Museum’s mission and financial goals by personally managing a portfolio of 75 institutional donors capable of giving multi-year $100,000+ gifts or sponsorships.
  • Identify, research, cultivate, and solicit gifts from foundations, corporations, government agencies and other institutional funders.
  • Collaborate with program and finance staffs to develop compelling proposals, budgets, and reports for institutional funders that align with their interests and priorities.
  • Maintain a Gift Opportunities List to track and update naming opportunities, general operating revenue, program support, corporate sponsorship, and event support.
  • Lead and oversee the corporate membership program including the solicitation, benefits and stewardship.
  • Create and implement strategic engagement plans for each donor/sponsor with tailored messaging and proposals aligned with values of each prospect and the Museum.
  • Support and direct event fundraising through Sponsorship to the extent necessary.
  • Oversee and supervise the work of the Development Operations Associate and p/t Gift Processor.
  • Oversee and supervise a contracted Grant Writer, if needed.
  • Respond to donor requests on a timely basis.
  • Prepare donor collateral and materials to formally solicit and update donors on the impact of their giving.
  • Learn and know the integral components of early childhood education and how the Museum’s various programs contribute to the positive development of young children and their families.
  • Gather and maintain a hub of accurate organizational data/statistics to report to donors on programs, outcomes and grant compliance for fundraising purposes.
  • Supervise and mentor development staff by providing leadership, guidance and professional development opportunities.
  • Oversee development operations including gift processing, donor database management, prospect research and reporting.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
