About The Position

The Temporary (3 Months Maximum) Director of Information Systems (IS) serves as the strategic leader responsible for designing, governing, and continuously improving the organization's business systems, information flow, and operational processes. This position is distinct from a traditional Director of Information Technology (IT). While IT focuses on maintaining infrastructure, networks, devices, and system availability, the Director of Information Systems focuses on how work moves through the organization. Operating at the intersection of business strategy, process management, technology, and data governance, the Director of Information Systems ensures that systems support efficient, consistent, and measurable execution across all departments. This role partners with executive leadership and department leaders to identify operational challenges, improve workflows, and align technology investments with organizational priorities. Success in this role is measured by improving organizational efficiency, strengthening accountability, reducing manual workarounds, increasing confidence in organizational data, and ensuring business processes are supported by scalable, integrated systems.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Information Systems, Business Administration, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline required. Equivalent executive-level experience may be considered in combination with relevant education.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible leadership experience in Information Systems, Business Systems Management, Business Process Management, or related fields.
  • Demonstrated success aligning technology, business processes, and organizational strategy.
  • Experience leading enterprise-wide process improvement initiatives.
  • Experience managing cross-functional projects and organizational change.
  • Information Systems Experience with enterprise business systems including ERP, CRM, HRIS, finance, and operational platforms.
  • Strong understanding of systems integration and enterprise architecture principles.
  • Knowledge of business intelligence and reporting platforms.
  • Business Process Management Expertise in documenting, analyzing, and improving business processes.
  • Experience implementing BPM methodologies and workflow automation solutions.
  • Working knowledge of IT infrastructure, cybersecurity, cloud technologies, and enterprise applications.
  • Familiarity with AI-enabled workflow automation and intelligent business process tools.
  • Understanding of data governance and information security best practices.
  • Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams through organizational change.
  • Excellent project management and strategic planning skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Experience working within nonprofit, mission-driven, healthcare, or resource-constrained organizations is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership: Partner with executive leadership to understand organizational goals and translate them into effective business systems and process strategies. Develop and execute the organization's Information Systems roadmap in alignment with strategic objectives. Lead cross-functional initiatives that improve operational effectiveness and organizational performance. Promote a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and operational excellence.
  • Business Systems Management: Own the strategy, design, implementation, and lifecycle management of the organization's core business applications. Ensure business systems are integrated to support end-to-end workflows rather than isolated departmental functions. Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend solutions that improve organizational effectiveness. Align technology investments with documented business processes and organizational priorities.
  • Business Process Management (BPM): Lead enterprise-wide business process documentation and governance. Identify opportunities to simplify, standardize, automate, and optimize organizational workflows. Implement Business Process Management (BPM) methodologies to transform documented procedures into structured, measurable workflows. Leverage automation, workflow technologies, and AI-enabled solutions to improve efficiency and reduce repetitive manual work. Establish process ownership, performance metrics, and compliance monitoring to ensure consistent execution across departments.
  • Data Governance & Analytics: Establish and maintain authoritative sources of organizational data. Develop data governance standards that ensure accuracy, consistency, accessibility, and security. Partner with leadership to improve reporting capabilities and support data-informed decision-making. Ensure systems produce reliable information that supports operational management, strategic planning, compliance, and AI-enabled analytics.
  • Technology Oversight: Provide strategic oversight of technology infrastructure supporting business operations. Collaborate with IT staff and Managed Service Providers (MSPs) to ensure reliable, secure, and scalable technology services. Ensure infrastructure investments support business objectives while maintaining security and operational continuity. Participate in technology planning, cybersecurity initiatives, disaster recovery planning, and system modernization efforts.
  • Vendor & Resource Management: Manage relationships with software vendors, consultants, Managed Service Providers, and technology partners. Negotiate contracts and oversee vendor performance to maximize service quality and organizational value. Develop and manage departmental budgets and technology investment plans. Ensure responsible stewardship of organizational technology resources.
  • Leadership & Organizational Development: Lead, mentor, and develop Information Systems staff while fostering collaboration across departments. Build strong partnerships with organizational leaders to encourage adoption of standardized processes and systems. Communicate technical concepts in clear, practical language appropriate for both technical and non-technical audiences. Champion change management initiatives that support successful implementation of new systems and processes.
