About The Position

Our Middle Market team is currently seeking a Director of Industry Segments for Construction. This is a full-time, exempt role. The position is eligible for a Hybrid or Remote work arrangement. The Industry Solutions Director, Construction is responsible for defining and executing the underwriting and portfolio strategy for the Construction industry within the Middle Market segment. Serving as the Middle Market organization's primary Construction industry subject matter expert, this role provides strategic leadership, market intelligence, portfolio insights, and underwriting expertise to support profitable growth and superior risk selection. The Industry Solutions Director partners closely with underwriting leaders and cross-functional business partners to identify emerging trends, develop industry strategies, enhance underwriting capabilities, and strengthen the organization's competitive position in the marketplace. This role influences business decisions at all levels and serves as a trusted advisor on Construction industry risks, opportunities, and market developments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Risk Management, Insurance, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of commercial insurance, underwriting, construction operations, risk management, industry consulting, or related experience.
  • Demonstrated expertise in Construction industry operations, exposures, market dynamics, and risk management practices.
  • Experience developing and implementing underwriting, business, or portfolio strategies.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities with the ability to translate data and trends into strategic business recommendations.
  • Exceptional written, verbal, presentation, and executive communication skills.
  • Proven ability to influence outcomes and build effective partnerships across multiple stakeholders and levels of an organization.
  • Ability to lead complex initiatives and manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including PowerPoint, Excel, Word, and Teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Middle Market underwriting and portfolio management.
  • Leadership experience in underwriting, risk management, construction operations, or industry consulting.
  • Professional insurance designations such as CPCU, ARM, AU, or similar credentials.
  • Active involvement in Construction industry associations or professional organizations.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and lead the underwriting strategy for the Middle Market Construction industry, including target segments, risk appetite, growth initiatives, and portfolio management priorities.
  • Drive profitable growth and portfolio performance through analysis of industry trends, market conditions, portfolio results, and emerging risks.
  • Develop underwriting guidance, industry best practices, risk assessment frameworks, and educational resources that enhance underwriting quality and consistency.
  • Lead training and knowledge-sharing initiatives that strengthen Construction industry expertise and underwriting capabilities across the organization.
  • Provide consultation and strategic guidance on complex Construction accounts, portfolio challenges, and emerging industry risks.
  • Monitor economic, regulatory, technological, and competitive developments impacting the Construction industry and translate insights into actionable business and underwriting strategies.
  • Influence product development, underwriting programs, and go-to-market strategies that address evolving customer and market needs.
  • Lead or support strategic projects designed to improve underwriting effectiveness, portfolio performance, and customer outcomes.
  • Collaborate with Product, Actuarial, Claims, Risk Control, Distribution, Marketing, and Corporate Underwriting teams to advance Construction industry initiatives and business objectives.
