About The Position

Corporate Coverage Company in Chicago, IL has an immediate opening for a Director of Health, Safety and Environment. Corporate Coverage Company is the shared services division of the family’s businesses. The Director of Health, Safety, & Environment will provide a broad range of responsibilities and oversight with emphasis on occupational safety and health programs, DOT management, and claims mitigation for our family of waste and recycling companies. This individual will ensure there are healthy and safe working conditions throughout all operations and assist the organization with DOT and OSHA compliance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor Science or higher degree in environmental, health, and safety.
  • Minimum is 5 years of professional level HSE experience.
  • Proven management, communications, and management/administrative skills.
  • DOT experience is a must.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP)

Nice To Haves

  • Post-graduate degree in a related discipline is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Administer all phases of the company Occupational Safety and health program, DOT program, and claims management injury prevention throughout all operations.
  • Continuously monitor and evaluate HSE performance throughout the organization and provide the executive team with tracking incident data/metrics, investigating injuries, and implementing proactive measures to prevent claims across the operations. Establish goals/metrics for the company leadership to ensure there are clear measurables identified and tracked.
  • Responsible for all aspects of the DOT compliance program to ensure drivers are safe and incidents are mitigated when they occur. This includes reviewing/modifying the current program and implementing proactive measures which will drive down internal costs.
  • Review and improve the current safety and health training program to ensure employees demonstrate exemplary safety results.
  • Be critically involved with accident investigations, root cause analysis, countermeasures, and coaching staff on the importance of preventing claims from reoccurring.
  • Provide technical advice to management for problems related to safety, injury prevention, equipment, and all aspects related to safety and DOT performance.
  • Establish and track key safety metrics and report to senior management with the identification of trends and opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Support and work within the parameters of the company’s workers’ compensation program and provide leadership with a focus on reducing claims, coordinating medical treatment of injured workers, working with occupational clinics to establish great relationships to mitigate claim costs, and aggressively manage auto and workers’ compensation claims to mitigate costs.
