About The Position

The Director of Grants & Government serves as a member of the executive leadership team and provides strategic leadership for all public funding and grants management. This position supports government relations and legislative advocacy efforts. This position develops and executes strategies that maximize local, state, federal, and foundation funding opportunities. The Director of Grants & Foundations ensures compliance with all grant requirements and secures sustainable funding to support the organization's mission and long-term strategic goals.

Requirements

• Strong knowledge of nonprofit compliance, federal grant regulations, and government funding processes.
• Excellent writing, communication, relationship-building, and strategic planning skills.
• Occasional air travel required; must be flight ready with valid travel documentation
• Bachelor's degree required
• Four plus years of progressively responsible leadership experience in youth programming, grant development, grant deliverables and reporting, supervision, and/or or nonprofit administration.
• Maintains close, daily contact with Club staff (professional and volunteer), Club members, and supervisor to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain guidelines/ instructions; instruct; and advise/counsel.
• Confidence working with executive leadership, governing boards, school administration, and elected officials.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement a comprehensive public funding and grants strategy aligned with the organization's strategic plan.
• Serve as a member of the executive leadership team, contributing to organizational planning and decision-making.
• Identify emerging funding opportunities, legislative initiatives, and public policy trends that impact youth development.
• Represent the organization with community leaders, elected officials, and partner organizations.
• Lead the identification, development, writing, submission, and stewardship of local, state, federal, and foundation grant proposals.
• Oversee the full grant lifecycle, including budgets, contracts, reporting, compliance, monitoring, and closeout.
• Collaborate with finance and program staff to ensure accurate financial reporting and grant compliance.
• Maintain a diversified portfolio of public and private grant funding.
• Engage in productive relationships with local, state, and federal elected officials and government agencies.
• Monitor legislation, appropriations, and policy initiatives affecting youth development and nonprofit organizations.
• Coordinate advocacy efforts consistent with organizational priorities and applicable nonprofit regulations.
• Participates in testimony, briefing materials, legislative updates, and funding requests.
• Partner with program leadership to develop innovative initiatives responsive to community needs and funding priorities.
• Ensure proposed programs are evidence-informed, measurable, and aligned with funder expectations.
• Lead cross-functional teams in developing new initiatives supported through public investment.
• Supervise grants and compliance staff as assigned.
• Provide technical assistance and training regarding grant management and compliance.
• Collaborate with finance, operations, communications, and program leadership to ensure successful implementation of funded initiatives.
• Support CEO and Board committees with funding strategies and legislative updates.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations governing grant funding.
• Develop systems for tracking grant performance, outcomes, and organizational impact.
• Maintain accurate records for audits, monitoring visits, and reporting requirements.
• Evaluate funding outcomes and recommend continuous improvements.
• Exceptional strategic planning and critical thinking skills with the ability to identify emerging funding opportunities, anticipate legislative and philanthropic trends, and align funding strategies with organizational priorities.
• Advanced project management skills with the ability to oversee multiple complex grant proposals, reporting requirements, and cross-functional initiatives while consistently meeting deadlines.
• Strong financial and analytical acumen, including experience developing multi-year grant budgets, interpreting financial reports, monitoring expenditures, and ensuring compliance with funding requirements.
• Outstanding relationship-building and communication skills with the ability to cultivate trust and collaborate effectively with government agencies, elected officials, foundation representatives, community partners, board members, executive leadership, and program staff.
• Participate in all required and recommended Club trainings and staff meetings.
• Assist with youth program needs as directed.
