About The Position

The Director of Foundation Giving is responsible for developing, implementing, overseeing, and evaluating all private foundation and government fundraising activities across the Area Command. This role involves strengthening relationships with foundation representatives and government entities to increase engagement and secure funding. The Director will work closely with the programs team and Grants and Contracts Specialists to develop proposals, applications, and manage relationships with funders. This position also supports campaign fundraising efforts and ensures the proper expenditure and reporting of granted funds.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Business Administration, Marketing, Communications or a related field, AND Seven years of successful foundation and fundraising experience OR any equivalent combination of training and experience, which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • Knowledge of government and foundation funding opportunities.
  • Knowledge and ability to review and prepare reports from donor software Interchange.
  • Ability to train and effectively direct the activities of staff and volunteers.
  • Ability to manage confidential information and exercise discretion and judgment.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain reports in an accurate and complete manner.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of corporate and foundation gift administration.
  • Ability to plan, develop, implement and evaluate the effectiveness of fundraising events to achieve short and long-range goals.
  • Ability to present a positive and professional image of The Salvation Army.
  • Ability to meet attendance requirements.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language effectively.
  • Ability to travel to various locations in order to participate in meetings, institutional events, etc.
  • Ability and willingness to conduct all duties in accordance with the ministry of the organization and its Christian principles.
  • Conducts all communications and job duties with the highest level of professionalism.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage TSA Austin's full institutional giving portfolio, including foundation grants, government contracts, and corporate partnerships, with a combined FY26 revenue target of $4,500,000.
  • Ensure disciplined pipeline development, compliance excellence, and proactive renewal strategies across all funding streams.
  • Supervise and provide strategic direction to the Grants Manager and Corporate Giving Coordinator, building a high-performing institutional team.
  • Drive proactive foundation and government grant prospecting, maintaining a rolling grant calendar and pursuing multi-year general operating support.
  • Identify new funding opportunities in Williamson County aligned with Corps expansion and strengthen outcomes documentation to improve win rates.
  • Own and drive a three-year institutional giving growth strategy targeting $2,000,000 in new revenue above the FY26 baseline.
  • Expand the corporate partner portfolio across Travis and Williamson Counties, diversify the foundation pipeline, and capture new government funding opportunities.
  • Direct the selection, training, and supervision of staff responsible for foundation giving and government grants.
  • Administer, lead, plan, and supervise Foundation Giving and government grants to increase donor engagement and reach fundraising goals.
  • Provide strong leadership to the Foundation Giving and grants teams to capitalize on their potential and stimulate motivation.
  • Mentor and lead the Grants Coordinator and Grants and Contracts Specialists staff to promote a cohesive and successful team.
  • Supervise the expenditure of granted funds and submission of progress and final reports.
  • Plan, develop, implement, and evaluate a variety of foundation giving and government grants strategies.
  • Communicate with the immediate supervisor or Area Command Officers regarding the status of plans, goals, and objectives.
  • Lead a team to implement developed strategies and hold team members accountable for meeting fundraising goals and metrics.
  • Develop, prepare, and monitor monthly reports illustrating progress against goals.
  • Create and maintain an active grants calendar and subsequent cultivation and solicitation strategy for foundations.
  • Create and maintain an active government grants calendar and subsequent cultivation and solicitation strategy for government entities.
  • Ensure that Grants and Contract Specialists work with compliance and finance teams on reporting and invoicing for government grants and contracts.
  • Collaborate with other departments and Officers to determine possible budget relieving funding opportunities and needs.
  • Develop and foster relationships with foundation funders and find personal connections with staff, board, volunteers, and donors.
  • Develop and foster relationships with government entities to ensure notification of potential funding opportunities.
  • Ensure the donor management system is maintained with accurate and complete profiles and records.
  • Develop, establish, and maintain a listing of foundation donors/prospects.
  • Respond to requests from donors/prospects for information and clarification in an accurate, timely, and professional manner.
  • Evaluate day-to-day efforts to ensure goals are met and/or surpassed.
  • Actively use internal case statements and gift opportunities to provide accurate information and opportunities to donors.
  • Develop letters, proposals, and reports for foundations.
  • Ensure that grant reporting and invoicing is completed on time and deadlines are met.
  • Accompany Advisory Board members, Managing Director, Area Commander, and immediate supervisor as needed in support of visits with foundations.
  • Collaborate with members of the Community Relations Department team to ensure coordination of communications, stewardship, and solicitation activities.
