About The Position

Crisis Text Line is seeking a Director of Foundation Relations to join their Advancement team. This new role will be responsible for the full spectrum of foundation fundraising, from identifying prospects and cultivating relationships to developing proposals, soliciting funds, and stewarding donors. The position will manage the Senior Grants Manager and collaborate with the CEO, senior leadership, and program/finance staff to create and implement an institutional giving strategy. The Development team at Crisis Text Line focuses on philanthropic partnerships to ensure the sustainability and scalability of their mission, working with foundations that share their belief in using technology and human connection to support individuals in vulnerable moments. They secure funding for programs, innovation, and research that drive impact.

Requirements

  • Genuine belief in Crisis Text Line's mission at the intersection of mental health, technology, and equity.
  • At least 7 years of fundraising experience, with a focus on foundation relations and institutional giving.
  • Proven track record of securing 5-7+ figure grants.
  • Experience managing a robust portfolio and building/sustaining a pipeline in a complex, mission-driven organization.
  • Thoughtful and strategic relationship-building skills, both internally and externally.
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills, with the ability to translate complex work into compelling proposals and reports.
  • Disciplined and organized communication, with professionalism in external interactions.
  • Skilled project management abilities, capable of coordinating input from various teams.
  • Collaborative approach, building strong internal relationships and working fluidly with program, finance, and leadership teams.
  • Credible and poised external ambassador, capable of representing the organization to senior foundation leaders.
  • Reliable High-Speed Internet Required.

  • Demonstrated track record securing multi-year and unrestricted foundation support.
  • Experience managing, coaching, or developing fundraising, grants, or development professionals.
  • Experience with Salesforce for moves management, pipeline tracking, and portfolio reporting.
  • Familiarity with prospecting tools such as Relationship Science.
  • Background in mental health, public health, technology, or social services sectors.

Responsibilities

  • Build a robust pipeline of foundations capable of making significant gifts (5-7+ figures).
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive institutional giving strategy aligned with organizational goals.
  • Identify and prioritize a diverse range of private and family foundations, managing the process from research to solicitation.
  • Cultivate and steward funder relationships, serving as a primary contact and engaging creatively.
  • Oversee all aspects of grant writing and reporting, including letters of inquiry, proposals, and stewardship communications.
  • Manage the foundation calendar to ensure timely and high-quality submissions.
  • Leverage and develop the Senior Grants Manager, ensuring consistent quality in grant writing.
  • Manage moves management processes, advancing prospects through the donor lifecycle with tailored strategies and consistent outreach.
  • Coordinate internal stakeholder involvement, including program leaders and C-suite executives, ensuring clear communication and accountability.
  • Maintain accurate records in Salesforce for moves management, proposal tracking, and grant content.
  • Build reporting structures for leadership visibility into pipeline health and revenue projections.
  • Partner with the finance team on budget alignment and grant compliance.
  • Engage the Board's Development Committee to identify connections, secure introductions, and build confidence in foundation fundraising.
