About The Position

The Director of Food and Nutrition Services leads, directs, and manages the Food and Nutrition Services Department’s operations across assigned hospital and department or campus locations. The Director provides consistent, high-quality service in a sanitary environment and ensures compliance with applicable State, Local, Federal, and Joint Commission regulations, established policies and procedures, and department performance standards. The role oversees patient and non-patient food services, including the employee cafeteria, doctors’ dining room, catering, and floor stock. It also manages food production, staffing and development, purchasing, budgets, productivity, vendor compliance, and departmental records and reports.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• At least five years of experience managing food or hospitality services.
• An ANAB-approved food management course or a state-required equivalent, such as ServeSafe, NRFSP, Always Food Safe, Above Training, 360 Training, or Prometric.

Nice To Haves

• Knowledge of hospital and healthcare operations.
• Knowledge of hospital and healthcare financial metrics.
• Registered Dietitian (RD) or Licensed Dietitian (LD) credential.
• Certified Dietary Manager (CDM) credential.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate existing systems and processes, initiate improvements, and make suggestions to upper management.
• Ensure compliance with current policies, procedures, and regulatory standards, including TJC, OSHA, and EEOC requirements.
• Uphold ethical business practices in accordance with the Corporate Integrity and Compliance Program, annual work plan, and established policies and procedures.
• Direct food production; ensure use of standardized recipes and production sheets; and regularly check food for flavor, temperature, and appearance.
• Lead and manage daily food and nutrition operations, including patient and non-patient food service, the employee cafeteria, doctors’ dining room, catering, and floor stock.
• Prepare or oversee department records and recurring or special reports and analyses, including information on diets, nutritional and caloric analyses, food and labor costs, sanitation, menus, and production rates.
• Ensure timely staff development, including training, education, competency assessments, and performance reviews.
• Supervise and coordinate departmental activities to maintain a well-trained and competent staff.
• Coach and mentor employees to build individual and team capabilities and support engagement and organizational goals.
• Manage staff performance and ensure departmental responsibilities meet corporate, hospital, department, safety, and regulatory requirements.
• Direct the purchase of food, supplies, equipment, and other items needed by assigned locations.
• Manage productivity to meet goals, maximize operational efficiency, use resources effectively, and minimize costs.
• Manage costs to achieve Net Spend per APD goals and objectives.
• Produce and manage the department budget, including accurate and timely general ledger coding.
• Manage and maximize compliance with HealthTrust contracted vendors.
