About The Position

Newton is hiring a Director of Finance to oversee financial operations, reporting, and controls. The role focuses on ensuring accuracy and compliance while providing strategic financial guidance to support organizational growth. The Director of Finance will own close and reporting processes, oversee accounting operations, develop internal controls, advise stakeholders on accounting implications, and coordinate tax processes. The position is part of a remote team spread across Canada.

Requirements

• CPA designation, including a working knowledge of IFRS.
• At least 10 years of accounting experience, including at least two busy seasons in external audit at a national or global firm.
• Advanced Excel skills and proficiency in other Microsoft Office applications, such as PowerPoint and Word.
• Well-organized, with the ability to prioritize.
• Strong attention to detail and excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with or knowledge of CIRO financial reporting requirements, including Form 1 reporting.
• Experience with system conversions, such as Sage to QBO.

Responsibilities

• Own the monthly and annual close process, including reviewing and supervising the corporate accountant.
• Oversee payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, fund reconciliations, accrual and intercompany schedules, and general journal entries to ensure accurate and timely financial reports.
• Develop and implement policies, procedures, and internal controls to support rapid expansion.
• Assess accounting issues related to new business plans or product features and advise stakeholders on their implications.
• Ensure compliance with IFRS reporting standards and policies, including assisting the CFO with financial statement notes.
• Coordinate and manage tax processes, including tax compliance and filings, and address federal and provincial tax issues with tax advisors.
• Identify technical accounting issues, research them, summarize findings, and implement solutions.
• Ensure quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting.
• Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain strong internal controls and financial reporting standards.
