About The Position

New Jersey Conservation Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, is seeking a full-time Director of Finance and Administration. As an established statewide nonprofit organization, we have an annual operating budget exceeding $6 million, assets over $65 million, and a staff of 36 employees. As a key member of the senior leadership team, the Director will provide strategic financial guidance and operational oversight to support our mission. Reporting to the Executive Director and working closely with the Board of Trustees, this role is responsible for overseeing the Finance and Administration Department, including the preparation and maintenance of all financial records, budgets, financial statements, and investment programs.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of financial statement preparation and accounting standards.
  • Experience with computerized accounting systems and spreadsheet programs.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Ability to work well as a team player.
  • Ability to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree and 7 to 10 years of expertise in nonprofit accounting and management/supervisory experience.

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining the accuracy and integrity of all financial information, records and assets.
  • Review reconciliations and monthly financial statements.
  • Prepare regular financial reports for distribution to the Board of Trustees and senior staff.
  • Administer investment program as directed by Finance Committee.
  • Oversee annual audit of financial statements. Serve as liaison to independent auditors and prepare required financial statements and supporting documents.
  • Prepare and file annual federal and state returns and reports.
  • Compile annual program budget information provided by department heads and develop an overall budget.
  • Facilitate financial aspects of real estate closings and record transactions.
  • Assist staff by providing requested reports or other financial information.
  • Attend meetings of Trustees and provide information as requested.
  • Serve as liaison for the board Finance and Audit committees. Schedule meetings, prepare meeting agendas and materials in coordination with the committee co-chairs.
  • Monitor insurance coverage. Maintain policies and coordinate renewals.
  • Assist Director of HR with benefits, including 401k plan, compensation and staffing.
  • Keep abreast of relevant accounting and tax issues. Communicate information to appropriate staff.
  • Supervise accounting manager, IT\Office manager and Director of Human Resources
  • Assist the IT\Office Manage with the responsibility of office management including facility, equipment and supplies.
