About The Position

The Center for Faculty Wellbeing and Development, a unit of the Office of the Provost, seeks a Director of Faculty Mentoring. This Center provides mentoring support and resources, leadership development programs, coaching for faculty leaders and faculty discerning their career progression, support for faculty search and promotion committees, faculty workload support for faculty affairs leaders across the University, and faculty development programs using applied theater to promote thriving workplaces and classrooms through UVA Acts. The Center also serves as a hub for faculty, collaborating with offices such as the Faculty Employee Assistance Program, the Ombuds Office, and the Office of Wisdom and Wellbeing in UVA Health. The Director will report to the Associate Vice Provost for Faculty Development/Director of the Center for Faculty Wellbeing and Development. This role involves leading and expanding current mentoring programs, collaborating with Deans, Associate Deans, and Department Chairs to develop and support evidence-based faculty mentoring programs across diverse disciplines and ranks. The Director will act as an expert and consultant for leadership, direct programs to create a network of effective faculty mentoring, and rigorously assess program impact on faculty careers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • At least five years of relevant experience or Master's degree with at least two years of relevant experience. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

Responsibilities

  • Direct the University Mentoring Program for new faculty in their first and second years at UVA, including revising curriculum, recruiting and training senior faculty mentors, recruiting and supporting junior faculty mentees, organizing mentoring groups, and assessing program impact.
  • Direct the Generating External Mentor Support Program for pre-tenure faculty, including outreach, supporting mentee recruitment of external mentors, approving reimbursements, and assessing program impact.
  • Conduct outreach, collaboration, and consultation with Deans, Associate Deans, and Department Chairs to educate, support, and facilitate best practices in faculty mentoring, develop new programs, provide resources, consult on current programs, and offer training.
  • Collaborate with the Office of Graduate and Postdoctoral Affairs to determine faculty development needs for mentoring graduate students and postdoctoral fellows, and provide faculty development resources and learning opportunities in partnership with UVA Acts.
