About the position
The Director of Mux Data & Platform Experience will lead and grow the product engineering teams responsible for developing and running the Mux Data product and the API, Dashboard, and Billing products. They will play a key role in developing the technical strategy in partnership with the product team and scaling the Engineering organization. The role requires experience in engineering leadership, strategic scaling of teams and products, and working with technologies and architecture for stream processing and distributed systems. Effective communication, stakeholder management, and talent development are also important aspects of the role.
Responsibilities
- Lead and grow the product engineering teams responsible for developing and running the Mux Data product and the API, Dashboard, and Billing products
- Develop the technical strategy in partnership with the product team to develop and execute on product strategy
- Oversee the collection, processing, and storage of data related to video playback, ingestion, and interaction data
- Present video data for development teams through APIs, Mux Data Dashboard, streaming, and batch exports
- Scale the Engineering organization by advocating for and developing an engineering culture of growth and excellence
- Expand the pool of technical leadership
- Drive the successful execution of complex deliverables with high quality
- Interpret business needs and develop strategy and roadmaps with peers, technical leaders, and product partners
- Cultivate a culture of excellence and psychological safety to build inclusive, productive, healthy teams
- Oversee capacity planning, margins, and cost optimization of the services
- Coach and support the growth of engineering leaders
- Deeply partner with other cross-functional leaders on the articulation of goals and completion of projects
- Represent all facets of the teams to external stakeholders and senior leadership
- Externally represent Mux on issues within the domain and organization, especially as it relates to strategic partners or key vendors
- Retain, develop, and hire strong engineering talent
Requirements
- 8+ years experience in Engineering with at least 3+ years leading and coaching managers and technical teams
- 3+ years in a strategic role scaling engineering teams and product
- Experience with technologies and architecture for stream processing, distributed systems or large scale products with high traffic, and/or experience of working with developer-facing or API products
- Experience with cloud infrastructure at scale
- Experience with the operations of running systems at scale: Site Reliability, Service-Levels, Incident management, etc
- Effectively communicate, influence, and work with internal stakeholders
- Adept at driving decisions and uniting stakeholders
