About The Position

A nationally recognized Level I Trauma Center in Western North Carolina is seeking an experienced Director of Emergency Services to lead operations within a high-volume Emergency Department. This executive leadership role oversees clinical quality, patient safety, regulatory compliance, operational performance, physician collaboration, employee engagement, and financial stewardship across a complex emergency services environment. The ideal candidate brings proven leadership experience in a large-volume Emergency Department and a demonstrated track record of improving quality outcomes, patient satisfaction, throughput, and operational performance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
  • Active RN license
  • Minimum 5 years of Emergency Services experience
  • Minimum 3 years of acute care leadership experience
  • Experience leading operations within a Level I or Level II Trauma Center
  • Strong knowledge of regulatory compliance, accreditation standards, and emergency department operations
  • Demonstrated experience managing budgets, staffing, quality initiatives, and operational performance

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or related field
  • Experience leading large-volume Emergency Departments
  • Experience in a unionized healthcare environment
  • Track record of improving patient satisfaction, quality outcomes, and operational metrics
  • Experience managing multidisciplinary teams in complex healthcare organizations

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic, operational, and clinical leadership for Emergency Services
  • Lead quality, patient safety, regulatory compliance, and performance improvement initiatives
  • Ensure delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care while maintaining adherence to evidence-based practices
  • Oversee patient throughput, admission and discharge coordination, and departmental efficiency
  • Develop and implement policies, procedures, and operational strategies that support organizational goals
  • Collaborate with physicians, nursing leadership, and interdisciplinary teams to improve clinical outcomes and service delivery
  • Monitor departmental performance metrics and implement action plans to drive continuous improvement
  • Lead employee engagement, retention, succession planning, and leadership development initiatives
  • Manage departmental budgets, staffing plans, labor productivity, and resource utilization
  • Ensure compliance with accreditation, regulatory, and trauma program standards
  • Support growth initiatives, service line expansion, and strategic planning efforts
  • Foster a culture of accountability, transparency, collaboration, and operational excellence
